OK - so... here's my suggestion to anyone trying to do multiple things... this has worked for me before, and continues to work for me today:
Step 1: Get a Google Account (i.e. Gmail) - it's free, you probably already have one so go to Step 2
Step 2: Open Google Calendars
Step 3: Learn how to create multiple calendars
Step 4: Create a calendar for EACH GROUP you want to do stuff with
Step 5: In each Calendar enter all dates, times, and locations (and basic descriptions) for all stuff you want to do
Step 6: Look for conflicts (remember especially to look at two or more events happening on the same day - example: WGI and Senior Recital Rehearsal... you may be in Dayton for one and need to be in NJ for the other)
Step 7: If possible to mitigate or reschedule you can now see what actual times you will not have conflicts and attempt to do so
Step 8: if you cannot reschedule you must prioritize what is important to you and then talk with the conflicting group/party on how you can work with them to come up with a solution
Step 8a: Seriously, have a game plan before you show up... don't just show up and say "I have a problem, I need you to fix it" - that rarely goes well
Step 9: Enjoy your reduced conflict stress life and end up making lots of $$$$ doing what you love
Step 10: share that money with EMC and myself since we both helped you get there... seems fair right?

When I joined college I was like "I want to do ALL of the ensembles!!!" My piano professor was like, you know these classes are three hours long each right? And there's a fifty minute master class each week.

I was like, oh, I'll just take choir then... ... And jazz band!

Definitely save up money before hand. It's really expensive to march. I did my first season of DCI after my Junior year of highschool then ran out of money. I took of last summer and I'll be taking off this summer as well. I am currently marching indoor since it is cheaper I could afford it and hopefully I will be able to keep doing at least indoor but yeah. Save up as much as you can and work as much as you can before you start marching

I relate to your struggles. I'm a top cross country athlete in my school and in the marching band(drumline). I finish running up to 13 miles a day then carry base 4 around for 3 hours everyday. Thanks to my coaches/ directors for helping me out and letting me skip practices to go to races/competitions. The only way this works is that xc practice ends at 4:30 and band starts at 5, so my sister brings me food to eat in the 30 minutes inbetween practices.

I was hoping to hear about your every day schedule. Between making so many videos, military, social life, etc... how do you do it? For 6 months I had to work 3 jobs, school, 2 bands, girlfriend, and still find time to beat the Witcher 3. It wasn't easy and I pretty much just woke up, got moving, and then did it without thinking about it. The longer I thought about it, the more it sucked instead of just getting it over with

It's possible, you just have to communicate. If you don't communicate, that's when people start to get angry.

I did marching band, indoor drumline, musicals, plays, dance, and had a job.

My brother did marching band, football, dive team, musical pit, and also had a job.

Both of us did just fine and had a very healthy social life as well as school life. A trick to homework is to not overthink it. That's something I learned way too late in life. Most teachers just want to see that you did it and (in terms of english assignments) that you have an opinion/thoughts. You can do it! Just believe in yourself (that's the hardest part 😉)

My high school had 3 sports teams Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen. For my band I told the varsity coach to put me on JV then play with varsity every other week. This helped with the conflicts. My dumb ass was in choir and band... So I missed 2 games. My team got 2nd in state with 2 losses. Advice is to talk your parents, your directors, and teachers. If you go on trips to festivals either drive or get your parents to drive. Everything works out.

I am the same. At uni I trained 6-10 hours a week and competed in archery travelling to matches and competitions, I started piano and got to grade 4, I went to almost every Friday evening rock and roll society event and almost all main parties no matter what uni work I had that week. I also did gym or yoga most days to keep in shape for archery. Now I am a teacher, I do extra courses to boost my CV, I play piano and recorder and have two tiny YouTube channels one for piano songs and one for English lessons and keep up with advanced Italian. Doing a million things is awesome.

This video should be required viewing for all incoming high school freshmen. Good stuff.

Thanks for making this video, my kid needs to hear that sports and band is possible. Two other side notes:

I’m a Buccaneer alum, love that you have a shout out to Bush/DCA.

I’m also a WCU Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band alum, I never liked going to University of Delaware games because the football team would get drilled. Always appreciated the Delaware Band though!

I was lucky that my marching band practice was mon, wed, thurs 6pm to 9pm. While my football practice was from after school to 530pm. I never got too play in the half time show, but the band director and drumline coach was ok with that. And then when I did DCA I was in the Army stationed in Maryland. The Bucs was at first not sure about it because every once in while I would miss due to weekend duties. but they were ok with that because they would email me all the changes and I would work on them on the base football field.
