2nd time I’ve read this post! Really well thought out and helpful. One comment for your future planning. We left Europe last year in mid November, going through Vienna on our way to fly home to the US. Christmas Markets were just opening in Vienna and had minimal crowds. Musical performances everywhere. Then, the Munich airport had a full Christmas Market. It was unexpected and lovely.

Nice job! I've recently retired for a full-time travel lifestyle and planning my year is definitely daunting! This video is helping me visualize how to approach and will check out your material on your website. Thanks again!

Excellent breakdown and explanation of how you plan your trips. I do a similar thing but it's not all written down and relies a lot on my memory, which doesn't always work perfectly! I've downloaded your travel planning spreadsheets and will start using those to improve on what I've been doing. They will be of much value to me. Here's to happy and safe travels in 2025!

We use cruises to better use the expense. Flight from Sydney back to LA was 11k so we took a 17 day cruise to Hawaii only cost us $6100 and we get to see 6 more places and all food included. Win win for us.

This 63 year old Canadian also uses a color-coded bucket list spreadsheet, sorted into rows and columns, to plan “Big Rock” adventures. I also have a spreadsheet that uses 12 criteria to determine a composite score out of 10 for all completed and future Big Rocks. This may seem over the top, but I have multiple serious and progressive health issues and a very high level of planning is required. My rule on sequencing is to strive for “hardest first” before my health window closes. I can sit on a cruise ship when I’m 80 if I’m still alive then. But if I want to walk the Camino de Santiago, I better have it on the calendar (May 2024 in this case). Every year a few more Big Rocks move from the “someday” category to “never”.

Australia and NZ is a must. Patagonia, atamaca desert. Cape town is out of the way. Try jordan, iran, kyrgyzistan, Georgia, Moldova, belarus. Iceland. China is great too.

what a nice video! I am also a planner of my trips. The funny thing is that I myself can not handle heat well and prefer to seek out the cool moments in a region.

In south Italy I recomend do not plan travel on sundays with buses because many times not running. I had few issues with them.
Recomend Budapest to visit where I am originally from.Very beautiful city .From there you can do river cruises on the Danube river cross Austria, Germany, and ending in Amsterdam in Netherlands. Good luck with your travels in 2025.I will watching you.
I still planing mine for this year try to figure out where to go.

This was very helpful. Thank you. I know we spend way too much money on our approx. 6-8 months/year travel so your budgeting process was great. Thank you.
