Wii Sports is Officially in the World Video Game Hall of Fame

Wii Sports has officially been chosen as one of the next games for the World Video Game Hall of Fame. At The Strong Museum in New York, this category is designed for video games that have had a heavy cultural impact on society, making people's lives better. What did Wii Sports do that deserves this spot?

It was one of if not the first game many of us played on the Wii. It was the perfect casual introduction to the system, showing everything it was capable of, and just being a fun time. Of course it deserves this honor, I just hope it pleases the almighty Matt.

i still find it crazy how almost everyone was playing this game back in the day, it almost gave a sense of unity. it even had my parents and other family members who have almost never played video games playing it

I remember watching a document that also showed that Wii Sports was helping old people in therapy, to help them with gaining some movement, and seems like wii sports isn't just for fun, or family gathering with friends but that it can help with healing and connecting people with healing.

I grew up with this game and its WiiSports Resort sequel so this was really special and emotional for the Nintendo staff and for Wii fans everywhere

I remember when me and my brother were young, our mom told us that we were grounded. She didn't say for what and we were confused about what we may have done. Then she followed with (though maybe not in these exact words) "And as your punishment, you will get this". And then our dad came in with a Nintendo Wii console and we were both ecstatic. I used to play a lot of boxing back then and I can imagine why this game had such an impact on people.

I'll never forget the first time I played Wii Sports when I got my first Wii on Christmas 2007. Me and my sister played the game for what seemed like hours! Needless to say, both this game and its sequel Wii Sports Resort have aged amazingly well, and it deserves its spot in the Hall of Fame for sure!
