Same video as on Veritasium, except not animated. Better or worse? Let me know in comments.

I prefer the casual style of this video. It's like you're talking directly to us, which makes it feel intimate. I also like seeing the city you're in (Amsterdam, right?) and your handsome face. But the animations in the other video do make the actual topic somewhat easier to understand. Perhaps a mixture of the two would be best, basically this video interspersed with occasional graphics to demonstrate the important points. No music either; it's a bit distracting. I guess the animation is better for drawing in new viewers though. Whatever you decide, I'll keep watching. :)

Holy shit I blindly walked past Veritasium... I can't believe I missed him.

I think it's easier to concentrate on the animated version. Easier to absorb the information watching the same thing twice, either way...

I did watch both videos, and while I feel the animated version is better at getting the point across from an educational standpoint, this version felt more like a conversation; it felt as though we were engaged in a discussion. Because of this, this video triggered different thoughts and opinions in my own mind, furthering my understanding. Over all, i found both to be captivating and enjoyable, and would like to thank you, Derek, for continuing to create fun, interesting, and educational content like this. :)

Why the fuck do people use Fahrenheit?
Celsius and Kelvin all the way.

I find it much easier to remember and concentrate in the animated version and not get distracted by your surroundings. But amazing job for remembering it all so well and being able to tell it over in such a clear manner!

All one take in a tracking shot. Nice.

I love your live action videos more! Animated videos are pretty common on YouTube but your live action ones really stand out.. The surroundings you walk around give a good feel and vibe along with the information you are telling. These videos really stand out among the many science channels. Please continue making live actions videos along with animated. :)

all those people turn around as they pass him, unlike in other cities

i think the animated version is better for people unfamiliar with science, it feels almost like it it is aimed at children. the animations demonstrate what your saying exactly and leave no room for the viewer's mind to further think on the topic, you force the viewer to think and interpret the words in only one way. that being said i like the vlog style better because it doesn't feel like im being talked down to, like we are having a conversation. it allows me to explore what you are saying in my imagination and i can bring my own understanding to the subject. the visuals have nothing to do with the topic and frees the brain to only concentrate on one input, sound, your words.

I love both videos. In one you can concentrate easier, because its animated and you can see all the info. But in the other hand, watching you in your city is fantastic. You can tell a story without interruptions, and that's fantastic! Keep the good work!!

I actually greatly preferred having both available- I watched the animated one first and felt that I could absorb it more readily (for example, the excellent cube on a cube illustration of mercury expanding). Having watched that I enjoyed watching this one as well.

I just can't stop noticing all the people starring at Mr. Muller

Personally I love that you can tell the whole story while walking around. It's also more fun in my opinion, and, like other people have said, it is certainly more intimate and conversational.

I really enjoy the 2veritasium walk-and-talk videos for their (somewhat) rambling philosophizing, but for a topic like this, I think a more tightly edited, soundtracked video with graphics and stuff is better.

As someone with attention disorder - I liked animated version more. It kept me more focused what you were talking about.
Of course this time it was also easier to focus because I knew most of the story you told.

This was kinda easy story to follow so casual way isn't too bad.. Like when you told that war plane example in other casual video. When things get more complicated the animation is the better way.
Also I like when you casually just talk to us like one of those really good school teachers.

TL;DW: For every degree Farenheit increased, mercury in a termometer increases its volume by 1 part in 10, 000.

I preffer the non-animated versions. What I love about your videos is that they don't go over what is realy needed for the undestanding of the viewer. Also, watch you walking is quite relaxing

Though the animated version is a bit easier to listen to, there is something really comforting about watching this video and you speaking with no interruption about the history and the science behind the scale. It's like you know everything, Derek.

The animated one is better for educational purposes. However, I've come to love your walking vlogs where you seem like you're telling an interesting story while in the middle of a casual walk. So which is better? Well, it depends on the situation.
