Not ready for God's call? #fifteenthsundayinordinarytime

For this Sunday's readings, there's an underlying theme found: God calls those who appear as unfit or unworthy to serve Him.

In the first reading, God calls the shepherd Amos to become a prophet and to confront and rebuke the northern kingdom of Israel. God didn't pick a politician or one of an elite class, but rather the opposite. Likewise in the Gospel, Jesus sends out His Apostles to preach to the Jews. Despite them being sinners (such as Matthew the tax collector, and Peter later denying Him, and Judas betraying Him), Jesus chose them for a reason.

In our own life, not only are we sinners, but we also may feel we are not qualified or not ready to do things. We may even believe we are not lovable. That's exactly why God chooses. He doesn't choose you so you can fail, but rather that you can be transformed by Him.

Like Amos or the Apostles, God doesn't look at your qualifications or abilities or background, He looks for your heart. The Lord loves you and wants to call you right where you are. And once that is acknowledged, you can be transformed into the child of God He is ultimately calling you to be.
