This video explains what is meant by a 91 degree side edge angle and a 1 degree base edge angle. When you go into a shop they will often ask you what angle you want your ski sharpened at. Most people prefer a 91 degree side edge and a 1 degree base edge.

Another important aspect of waxing is the scraping. It is important to have a sharp edges on the scrapper which you can achieve by sharpening it on a file mounted to your shop desk. Mike Whynkoop also walks you through the different techniques for scrapping off wax. Don't miss his advice on how to apply the wax and what kind of wax to use.

All in all this video will give you a good taste of what it takes to professional tune your skis.

I've been watching ski and snowboard tuning videos for a week now, to make some money this winter in Chile, and this is by far, THE BEST of them all, I really appreciate it, thank you.

Nice! I've never done the 2 wax method he showed. That's interesting. Also it cracks me up I spend most of my time buffing... several brushes and then several scotch brite pads! I guess I could dial it back a bit! Great video!

What did you mention is a good (cheaper) option for sharpening your scraper? I’m trying to find it online. Thank you for such a great video!

Any tips for spring ski waxing? Morning is 25degrees and icy and 1:30 crazy sticky almost impossible to ski. What can be done to help ski not stick when snow is melting?

what if there are thicker wax on the ski, will it make the ski slower? Will it also make the wax stay longer?

Sharp is good, but real sharp is no good unless you're skiing on ice. Going super fast is great if you're a racer, but most of us just want to go faster than our buddy. I do all my own repair and tuning. I never hot wax. I strip, rill, re-wax and hand buff every year.

Adjusting the edge to 91° (89° surely??) and base bevel to 1° is a compound angle of 90°, so no "sharper" than a 90° side & 0° base bevel.

Good job explaining the waxing. You kind of breezed over the edges though. Also, there's no way to control the angle to one degree without a guide.

Dan do you have Instagram? Also where are you based out of when you ski?

I don't think you mean "Brillo pad." That's metal. I Thnk what you used was a "Fibertex" pad.

91 degrees? Bullshit. This is 89 degree angle. Try and find 91 degree angle file block. I dare you.
Pros know how to measure angles.
You do not.
