I wouldn't praise them for words but if they actually enforce it.

I'm sure they'll do it right after they stop the boats.
There is already a regulation which guarantees everyone the right to a bank account. It's an EU regulation though so maybe they should review which EU regulations they scrap

Ironically the right to a basic bank account is given, in the EU. The loony Tories will make some noise on this, but are the rest of them, with their unbent support for banks likely to do anything to upset the Bankers?

If a Private Bank does not want you as a customer what's the issue? None of us can walk in to coutts and ask for an account. This is what we call "Elite"

Poor Nigel living the elite life, "helping" the commoner

Who elected a bank to judge my political views and my moral compass. How dare they.

For background, Coutts was closely associated with the Army, at one point it was compulsory for Army officers to bank there, making it very conservative indeed. However, in the period of peace following WW2, it became ridiculous to have to bank with an outfit which had just one branch, on Whitehall, when you might be so far away communications could take months, and they then moved to private banking for the wealthy.

Banks should only be concerned about customers involved in illegal financial dealings.
They are overstepping their boundaries.

A bank is a private business, they reserve the right to turn away anyone they dont want to do business with, especially if they're shareholders will suffer as a result of association with scumbags.

Yaaay! So then I too, on my part-time four-hour contract salary, will be able to sashay on down to my 'local branch' of Coutts Bank and open up a nice little current account with them? Just like 'man of the people' Nige? How exciting! Better make an effort, I suppose, if it's Coutts - wear my very best Primark gear and everything! Can't wait!

I hate Nigel But what has opening a bank got to do with his political point of view?

Actually this man is wrong. When someone opens a bank account, it is a business deal between you as the customer and them, the bank. Decades ago no one questioned the customers right to refused to have an account with a particular high street bank because of it’s investments in South Africa or with tobacco companies. Those were political decisions that customers were free to make. In this case, we don’t know how much Coutt’s decision was influenced by Farage’s shortage of funds, perceived money laundering risks or his political views. But, let us assume for a moment that the decision is based on his racism and other aspects of his negative image caused by his highly dishonest and toxic contributions to the Brexit debate. Many companies have chosen to drop public figures from their advertising or business deals due to the negative baggage of a public figure. Coutt’s decision is no different. Farage is attempting a right wing stunt similar to the political attacks on Disney and Bud Lite in America.
