"The single biggest lie in politics is that Republicans are the party of the rich," says Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). "The dirty little secret is that the rich do just fine with Big Government."

Reason TV caught up with Cruz in Houston at the kickoff to National School Choice Week. During the interview the senator discussed income inequality, how the problem has has gotten "significantly worse" under Obama, and why the country should be focusing on how policies impact those who are struggling.

"Right now today the top 1%, the millionaires and billionaires that the president loves to demagogue, earn a higher share of our national income than any time since 1928."

Camera and editing by Sharif Mattar. Interview by Todd Krainin.

Approximately 3:15 minutes.

You can argue over Ted Cruz's tactics, but I like this guy a lot better than John McCain.

There is no left right anymore. It's all the same from both sides. Too bad these are just words that people want to hear.

The one dislike must be from President Obama.

Income inequality is only bad if it is due to cronyism, if it is from free market capitalism it should be celebrated because we are all different!

A.PB.JAY his policy is that there should be no policy on any of the stuff you listed. Let the states decide and free market take over. You obviously know nothing go away now.

Admittedly, a great deal of regulations imposed nowadays are made in collusion with big banks. Take the Volcker Rule for example, which is more or less completely self-regulated by Wall Street. It's clear that regulations are sometimes harmful or formulated in the wrong manner.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have increased regulation of finance. Levels of private debt as a % of GDP are staggering, and updated regulations that span beyond the Glass-Steagal Act are required to tackle this.

I found it quite funny how parallels were drawn to the 1920s. Because America was so over-regulated back then...

I'm sick of Obama obviously...but Cruz sounds way too much like a politician. I instantly go into skepticism/defense mode while he's talking.
