THE KARDASHEV SCALE:
In 1964, Nikolai Kardashev proposed a hypothetical scale. It is a scale which can be used to measure the development of a civilization or species. The Scale rates civilization as Type 'N' civilization depending upon the amount of energy or information it has. Mankind is currently ranked by scientists at type 0.7244 on this scale. Originally, Nikolai Categorized three types of civilization based on energy.
Type 1 Civilization:
100 to 200 years till we become a type 1 civilization. It's a civilization that has harnessed the entire energy of it's home planet. About 90,000 times more energy then we can harness at this point in time. It would be able to counter any natural disaster's and build settlements anywhere on the planet.
Type 2 Civilization:
1000 to 2000 years till we become a type 2 civilization. Such a civilization would be able to harness energy from it's local star. It could extract energy from it's parent star using mega structures such as the hypothessed Dyson Sphere. Dyson Sphere is 600,000,000 times bigger than the earth. Such a civilization probably would have become immune to extinction as it could manipulate the celestial bodies in it's star system. And potentially curb any mass extinction level event. It would be more advanced than humanity as shown in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Type 3 Civilization:
More than 100,000 to 1,000,000 years till we become a type 3 civilization. Such a civilization would be able to harness the entire energy of it's home energy. It's energy source could be black holes and they might be able to create their own stars. Such a civilization would be more advanced than the civilizations in, star wars and star trek. This is where the original scale ended as Nikolai did not see the need for any further categorization of civilization. But since then few new extensions have been made to the scale.
Type 4 Civilization:
More than 10,000,000,000 years till we become a type 4 civilization. Such a civilization would have control over the entire universe. It would have devised method to travel much faster than light and even it's energy source could be extragalatic energy such as the dark energy.
Type 5 Civilization:
Such a civilization would be multi dimensional and would exercise control over the multiverse, if it exists. It would be able to derive energy from multiple universes. They would be the epitome of a civilization.
Type 6 Civilization:
Such a civilization if it could ever come into existence would essentially be god like. It would be able to manipulate space time and transverse through different relatives or dimensions and even create other universes. Our minds cannot fathom what such god like creatures could do as it is simply beyond our senses and minds.
Type 7 civilization:
It would not be a civilization it would be the embodiment of the universe itself. It would be all and everything.
