Flite Test - Weathered Plane - FLITE TIP

Got hanger rash!? aka: scratches and dings. Instead of repainting your RC flyer, you can simply "weather your plane" and give it a realistic distressed look with some paint and charcoal!

More photos and information in the write up on the website:

We want to thank Chris Roncaglione for this demonstration and his help painting the plane in this episode!

Nice Vid .. Have you done a "When Should I Buy My First Scale Plane" video? I would like something I can steer new pilots to so they can see what their options are. I always hear the same thing from new pilots, "I don't want to buy a plane that doesn't look like a real plane". They want to start off with a Scale Plane instead of a Purpose Built Trainer. They end up buying something like a 182 Sky Trainer or a Piper J3 Cub and then get frustrated because its "too hard to fly". Well ... Duh

Dude, a lot of people might not know how to do this. This program isn't just designed for you, it's designed for everyone in the RC community. People new to the hobby, for example, might find this Flite Tip useful.

Got some scratches on your airplane? Sooth that OCD in you by throwing in some more scratches to even it out. (That's the ideology in this episode). lol

the 'brass' coloured area isn't a machine gun belt, it's a support for the gun. That gun had a drum magazine on top. Nice work otherwise

Sorry Guys my first ever thumbs Down yea the advertising brought on the little window on the right with it starting during your video and when I dropped out of full screen to turn it off my trace blocker cut you off still had sound but on so much a bad feeling. My trace blocker is up to 45 trace blocks from some I've never seen like 24/7 media 5 min. media and ect. if this happens on the next video I'm going to drop you sorry but I don't go for all the tracers, most I've ever seen now up to 46

Hey Carter, indeed, but imo, that's just perfect for showing the difference between stock and "weathered". :o) It looks funny though.
I even think it would have been nice if Josh and Josh showed a "before" and "after" weathering or put an out of the box plane next to the "weathered" one. I think that then the difference would show even more.
Keep up the good work, Flite Test! :o)

It's funny how foam is weak against hangar rash but puts up well with the real damages in a bad crash...

Please go make your own videos if you know what the masses want... of course, since your comment got called spam, Im thinking you dont so much. Weathering is an art, and is nothing like applying a sticker.

If any foam is exposed, make sure to test any paints before spraying, as it could attack the foam!

To see some excellently weathered planes, google: show your warbird mods
and click on the first result (from the FliteTest forum). A member has done some awesome stuff there!

I hope people realize that the clear mat lacquer should be foam safe:)

A water based urethane will seal the deal and not damage the foam.

Are those all foam safe? I wouldn't want to put something on my plane that will eat it.

Paint = Weight

I prefer to keep em naked and keep the extra weight down.
