A global technology outage grounded flights, knocked banks offline and media outlets off air on Friday in a massive disruption that affected companies and services around the world and highlighted dependence on software from a handful of providers.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack.

CrowdStrike falcon is not build in MS Windows. It is an additional software installed on Windows and other OS systems

I keep telling people I don't update anything, see why now its happening to everyone and now everyone will see why. THE only time something on my computer breaks or does not work right is when it gets a freaking update

Please note that this is not "Microsoft Software." The company was originally founded by McAfee (the antivirus people) and is privately owned.

"Crowdstrike is built into Windows"? You probably wanted to stop him there and prompt a bit of a better explanation.

This is not built into all Microsoft computers. This only affects people who use crowd strike software.

So much incorrect information in this news clip. Crowdstrike is not a Microsoft product, but can run on windows and other operating systems. It automatically updates itself by default..it's not built into windows. You can't roll back to the old version of the software to automatically fix this.

This exact same thing happened in 2006 or so. McAfee released a DAT update to their virus scan tool and it deleted the critical svchost.exe from Windows XP machines. It caused the computers to endlessly reboot. That was a fun day.

And this is caused by a Microsoft out-sourced company that calls this CROWDSTRIKE ? Sounds like a dystopian movie, or a rehearsal for something worse in the making. Who's paying the bill?

Carmi Levy is anything but a “tech expert”. Crowdstrike is not “built into Windows” it’s a 3rd party software that people buy and install. CS did the same thing with Linux a few months ago. What a clown. 🤡
