Maybe you tried ChatGPT and didn't like it. Or, maybe you're embarrassed at the idea of someone getting into your your account and seeing your discussions with the chatbot, or even sharing those with the world without your permission. Thankfully, OpenAI makes it easy to delete your ChatGPT account. Be aware that deleting your ChatGPT account is permanent, and that you can't re-use the same email or phone number for a new account.

Now let's walk through the steps to delete your ChatGPT account.

Step 2. Find your account name in the menu on the left side of the screen, and then click the ellipses next to your account name. A menu opens.

Step 3. Click "Settings" in this menu. The Settings window opens.

Step 4. Click "Data Controls" in the menu on the left side of this window. Data Controls options appear on the right side of the window.

Step 5. Find Delete Account in the list of options, and then click "Delete." The next window asks if you're sure you want to delete your ChatGPT account. Among other things you should be aware that deleting your account is permanent and can't be undone, and that you can't re-use the same email or phone number for a new account.

Step 6. Type your email account associated with your ChatGPT account in the required field, and then type "DELETE" in the next field. Click "Permanently Delete My Account" after entering this information. Your ChatGPT account will immediately be deleted, and you'll be routed back to the ChatGPT login screen.

Thanks. But this doesn't work when ChatGPT is broken and all you get after login is the message "Oops, an error occurred". At that point you're stuck and there's no way to get to the settings menu or any other part of ChatGPT. Even totally erasing browser history won't work. Downloading a different browser doesn't work either.
Anybody knows a solution for this fubar situation?

Hi, I wanted to let you know that the procedure doesn't work when logging in using a Microsoft, Google, or Apple account, as it shows as 'blocked'. Could you make a tutorial on how to proceed in this case? Thanks.

I just get a locked message at the bottom no option to delete! I just downloaded 10 minutes ago! Nothing but issues

How can I reuse the same phone number
Because i logged in with school Google and I used my phone number

Doesnt work, its stays locked even after i put DELETE into that space. Something fishy about this

Thanks for this, you always have to type "DELETE", I was using another language and the site tells you to write the translated word.
