A woman should not appear in public to non-mahram men, even if covered, unless there is an essential need. In Islam, the greatest *alimahs* of all time, the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him), never taught publicly. If it were something good or permissible, they would have been obliged, or at least allowed, to step out of their homes to guide and teach after the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him) as the Mothers of the Believers. There is a great lesson for us in their lives unless it is specifically proven that a ruling applies only to them.

Hijab is not just a headscarf; it is an Arabic word meaning "concealment" or "partition." Allah explains in Surah Al-Ahzab how to observe this concealment in front of non-mahrams, and in Surah An-Nur, the rulings concerning mahrams are outlined. In front of mahrams, you may appear without covering your face or hands, but in front of strangers, you are obliged to cover your entire body.

**يٰۤـاَيُّهَا النَّبِىُّ قُلْ لِّاَزۡوَاجِكَ وَبَنٰتِكَ وَنِسَآءِ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ يُدۡنِيۡنَ عَلَيۡهِنَّ مِنۡ جَلَابِيۡبِهِنَّ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ اَدۡنٰٓى اَنۡ يُّعۡرَفۡنَ فَلَا يُؤۡذَيۡنَ ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ غَفُوۡرًا رَّحِيۡمًا‏** (33:59)

*Translation:*
"O Prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their *jalabeeb* (cloaks)."

The word in the Quran, *jalabeeb*, is the plural of *jilbab*, which refers to an outer garment. The *jilbab* covers the whole body, including the hands, except the face. However, when part of it is lowered from the head, it also covers the face, ensuring the entire body is concealed.

Allah commands women to lower their *jilbabs* so that their entire bodies, including the face and hands, are covered.

**The Command to Lower the Gaze from Women:**

"Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts..." (Al-Noor 24:30)

A woman is among the prohibited things that men must not gaze at unless she is a *mahram*.

If you have any doubt about what a *jilbab* is, you can research. A *jilbab* covers the entire body.

Some scholars misunderstood the context of Surah An-Noor, thinking it allows women to reveal their faces because it discusses the *khimar* (headscarf) and wrapping it around the bosom, which doesn’t cover the face. However, this refers to being inside the house, where *mahrams* are present. The mistake was in not distinguishing between the rulings for attire inside and outside the home. Nonetheless, Alhamdulillah, no scholar says full hijab is useless or haram except recommended or better than not covering the face.

In Sunni interpretations, the 'awrah of a man refers to the part of the body from the navel to the knees. The Maliki, Shafi'i,  Hanafi and Hanbali schools of thought observe that there is a difference on whether the belly button and the knee itself are included.

So I think the woman who has posted this is in the wrong. Maybe she presumed his pecs were part of Awrah they are not.
