Other options W8 provides is snapping the desktop with a metro app, or Aero snap 2 desktop apps with 1 metro app for a 3 way view, or have multiple desktop windows open & when you snap with a metro app then the desktop apps are put into a preview image list.

Though unlike Aero snap, the metro snap does a 1/3 & 2./3 screen split. You can toggle which app has the the 2/3 but it doesn't provide 1/2 option. But on multiple monitors, each screen can be treated separately to multiply options.

Metro allows rapid switching & two app snap, just not presenting multiple windows at same time, but that's one of the reason why W8 still has the desktop mode for any legacy work. So long as you don't need a metro app then you can work as before on the desktop.

Though if you have multiple monitors then it won't matter as much as W8 handles multiple monitors better than W7.

Eventually MS will adjust the UI for a better compromise. They just had to focus on getting it all to work first.

Wow, that's nice and smooth. Hope they put touchscreens on normal laptops with dedicated GPUs as well. I want one.

Dang, that's the nicest looking laptop I've ever seen, I like it even a lot more than my MacBook Pro or older white MacBook! Intel really should start just making these and have them called Ultrabook!

Btw, a possible work around solution for W8 UI is to run a copy in VM. You can then have the W8 apps in a VM Window and even run multiple VM Windows. Just adjust Monitor count on display settings in the VM to the number of Monitors you would like available to your VM. Or just run multiple VM for each Window you need...

Wow, the rubberized finish looks so damn good. I'm not too sure about the keyboard though. Just judging from your video, the keys look like they'd feel really "fishy".

I've always dreamt about having a laptop with a touch screen. Maybe one of these will actually be on my desktop somewhere in the next 12 months. :)

Secure boot only requires a OS be certified for it, so even with it active you can still use another OS. So far Fedora & Red Hat will get certified for example. While most PC's should allow the BIOS to turn Secure Off if still needed.

Main thing is like OSX, MS is moving away from traditional BIOS to UEFI. Canonical is even planning their own version, to go with their hardware partners, but won't let anyone else get certified like MS will.

There will be a lot of hybrids too, like Asus Transformer style keyboard docks. While I'm still waiting to see if MS uses that patent they got back in 2010 that allows for a tablet to switch CPU's when docked. To literally transform a system from a tablet to a laptop or even a desktop.

A scalable OS may be even more useful if they can make that work...

Whether the OS good or bad may be a opinion but W8 is the opposite of clutter, it is easier to read, and it address the fact most people can't really multi-task.

It's not a opinion that studies have already shown that only about 2% of people can actually multi-task without becoming less productive. Meaning 98% are actually less productive when trying to multi-task.

You may be 1 of the 2% or you may just not like it but it remains to be seen whether the rest won't find it a better solution.

I haven't finished watching the video yet, but I'd like to say right now that I have the same LG screen and only about two weeks ago, after three years, I found out how to tilt the screen, lol.

No real reason to hate it, anymore than any other GUI. Tiles may even be better than icons, easier to read, can present live streaming information, customizable, etc.

The main thing that takes getting used to is the new way information is prioritized, the W8 UI goes with the idea of reducing distraction and focusing on information flow. Most people can't actually multi-task, only about 2% really can and the rest just become less productive trying but this clashes with legacy. So we'll see...

I know you're viewing it in the opposite of what it is actually presenting you, at least from what you're stating.

Having to view one app at a time full screen is the opposite of clutter!

While the Start Screen is customizable and needs be no more cluttered than a desktop but is easier to view than a small Start Menu you have to scroll through and often dig through sub folders.

You don't have to like it, I'm just pointing out any invalid reasons you may be presenting.

But you have problems with productivity if you have to work with many multiple files for example if you are a coder you need many programms where you can easily switch to get information and you won't get this on the Metro UI

Just wondering, do we still need a touchpad on touchscreen laptop?
