5 ingredient Water & Sprite Pies | Barry tries #32

For a while now i'd heard about a water pie, it's something that originated in recipe books in the depression era, where people made what they could with the ingredients they had - hence with flour, sugar and water - you could make a pie! So, when I was asked to try Sprite pie (which was basically the same thing but with Sprite) I knew it was time to do them together! And you know what? ... It's actually not too bad!

Barry you should really do a playlist for old recipes . You could do a 100 year old cake, bread, cheese cake, pizza, and so on!!!! I would love to watch it, and I am sure that many more will too!!

if you carry something that's almost full, DO NOT LOOK AT IT. Looking at it makes your brain want to overcorrect and then you'll surely spill. (source: have carried lots of plates of soup when I was a waiter during my student years)

Replace the sprite with chocolate milk. You will have to stir the ingredients a lil bit in the pie crust before baking. Pretty impressive!!

My aunt once told me about a pie that my other aunt made in home economics class called a mock apple pie that used saltine crackers. It probably also originated from the time of the great depression.

This reminds me of Sugar Cream pie that has been very popular for many, many years in my state of Indiana in the US. ( I think it was actually named our "Official State Pie.") It uses heavy cream instead of water or Sprite, then add flour, sugar, and a little vanilla. It has the creamy consistency of a custard pie, but made without eggs.

Reminds me a bit of the state pie of Indiana, where I am from. Sugar Cream Pie. 9" pie crust 350* for 10 mins FILLING:

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
