These 3 women are using gender equality and women’s rights to help fight the climate crisis.
Lilian Gregorio is the technical team and founder of Fundación Plurales. She created Defensoras Ambientales, a network supporting Indigenous women environmental defenders in Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. Defensoras Ambientales works to strengthen local knowledge, teach technical and advocacy skills for climate adaptation and mitigation, and improve women’s resilience while amplifying their demands.
Lucie Gamond Rius is a grassroots activist and the founder of Imece France, a nonprofit based in Turkey that supports, educates, and empowers displaced women. With Imece, Gamond Rius started the Solar Age Project. The program trains Syrian women refugees in solar engineering.
Andrea Monzón Juárez is the director of Asociación Todos Juntos and MealFlour, which works with Indigenous women in Guatemala to improve nutrition.
All three women were recognized at the Gender Just Climate Solutions Award at COP26. The awards brought together environmental defenders from around the world who use gender equality and women’s rights to fight the climate crisis.
