How a Carbon Capture Machine Generates Electricity AND Helps Solve the Climate Crisis

Landwärme and bioCORE have partnered together to create an economically sustainable facility designed for the sequestration and permanent storage of biogenic carbon dioxide.

Using a unique Solid Oxide Fuel Cell system, they've devised a way to produce renewable electricity by capturing CO2 from emissions and from the atmosphere to support local energy grids. Even more than that, the process can work in reverse – the same machine can store excess electricity created by solar panels and windmills during peak production.

This two-way solution is a step towards the creation of a carbon-negative energy cycle and Landwärme believes it can scale globally in existing energy facilities without increasing carbon emissions.

XPRIZE has launched its XPRIZE Carbon Removal indie film showcase – a series of short films following XPRIZE Carbon Removal teams and their efforts to pull carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere and oceans and sequester it durably and sustainably.

Every week, we’ll host exclusive Discord watch parties for those in our community to see the films before they premiere on the XPRIZE YouTube channel the following day.

These videos were produced by independent film-makers through Glimmer to showcase the diversity of teams and solutions in the competition. This series does not serve as an endorsement of any specific team or their XPRIZE entry.

XPRIZE Carbon Removal is tackling the biggest threat facing humanity – fighting climate change and rebalancing Earth’s carbon cycle. Funded by the Musk Foundation, this $100M competition is the largest incentive prize in history.‎

Wow, I usually think that carbon capture is a fools errand but this one seems like it could have legs. I love that is can produce electricity and also store it too and as an add on to biogas plants that exist is a vary nice touch. All the best with your development and implementation. I really do look forward to seeing more of these if they are indeed as good as claimed here

best technology I saw so far, congrats !

The ability to store excess electricity in the form of gas is super important. We already have infrastructure and mature technologies to store, distribute and use methane in many countries and this technology could tap into it. Keep up the good work!

I thought that CO2 were plant food, and growing trees were a good thing, as they badly need more CO2 in order to grow strong and big ?

I'm suspicious of all men who don't shave before a televised interview. Also I sell portable, pocketable CO2 sensors with nice 24 hour graphs on an epaper screen.
