How to fix (rebatch) a lye heavy soap 😳

In this video I demonstrate how to rebatch a lye heavy soap, using the rosemary soap I made over a year ago now! It's been sitting on my shelf looking at me since then crying 'fix me!!' Glad to finally get to this video. I hope you enjoy it and find it helpful 🙂

Thanks for the tutorial! I forgot the liquid oils in a 5 pound batch. After watching how much you needed to stir, I put mine in a turkey roaster and used a hand mixer. It worked great but boy what a pain!

Thanks for this! After 4 years of soapmaking, I've started making mistakes... Lye heavy this week and last month I forgot the lye! This was really helpful to see how a rebatch soap can look (my attempts don't look nearly as smooth as yours).

Hi Elly! This was a surprise! I remember watching the rosemary soap video and thinking of how it might go with a peppermint EO (love me some rosemary and peppermint soap/shampoo). It’s a shame it turned out lye-heavy, but I greatly appreciate your openness with us in showing when things go awry (as they sometimes do for us all), there’s a way to work it out for a resulting lovely and usable soap.

I haven’t started my soap journey yet, but your videos and recipes will be the backbone of my practice. They’re so very helpful and encouraging. (I’m only planning to make soap for myself, and maybe some family — if they want any.)

I'm so happy to find this video! I just finished making a batch of dish soap bars and realized that very soon after, I measured the oils incorrectly. Instead of 50 grams of olive and castor oil, I added 5 grams each! 🤦‍♀️

Well, it just happened to me! So glad I could come to my favorite soap maker’s channel for help! It was silly how it happened. I planned to make a couple of batches this week, so I masterbatched my lye solution. But then I accidentally added the whole amount to the first batch! Yikes

Thank you! I have made many batches of soap but tonight was the first time I messed one up. I was too tired and left out an oil, and was quite angry with myself thinking I’d wasted it all. But now it’s a new project to try, once it sets up enough to grate. 🙂
