I didn’t live back in the 1952s so I don’t know how important the song is but after listening to the actual version… it’s almost too good.

I grew up on Leroy Andersons music. I heard for his music for the 1st time in 1952 my father collected Leroy Anderson’s music. We also studied his music in grade school. My brother still has the collection.

In the 1950s Blue Tango was the very standard our family used to teach me and the other young ones to Tango..many Saturday afternoons in my Grandmother's formal dining room in her home in New Orleans....with the long dining room table pushed to the far wall was our dance studio ..with my beautiful young aunts with their long glossy raven black hair ..and delicate Castilian facial features ( they were only four to five years older than me teenagers at the time .Spanish Creole debutantes. ..they were Dad's younger sisters out of eleven children ..I have fifteen myself ..we believe in large familias..) they would teach me the Tango ...the dance of passion ..thank you dear aunts and Leroy Anderson for Blue Tango ..I still dance to it til this very day ❤️👍🏼

I was born in 1957 Litchfield Illinois and lived in SW Illinois until the summer of 1963. I can still remember " The Syncopated Clock " after the 11pm news and then the late night movie would come on. Amazing what you can remember when you're 4 years old. My life went to sheer hell when my father dragged us to Florida because he couldn't handle the cold. It was either Florida or Australia. Hooray Mr. Leroy Anderson.

I heard this on radio as a boy growing up in South Africa. It moved me to tears then and now, at 75.

"Blue Tango" was the no. 1 song on the popular radio hit-parade in summer 1952; stayed there for (at least) two months.
Interesting that Leroy Anderson had composed this instrumental some years before releasing it because he felt it had little commercial value
"Blue Tango" is the ONLY purely instrumental composition ever to make no. 1 on the popular radio hit parade.

one of the most BEAUTIFUL songs on the planet...I well remember it from the 50's when I was about 5 yr. old but never knew the title until an episode of Kojak when he was doing tango with his girlfriend and I was able to google the name of the tune they were dancing to and now and can listen all I want to....YAY!!!

Tango Azul by Leroy Anderson is one of the most beautiful tangos ever written. Of course "Serenata" is as beautiful as Tango Azul.

My big surprise was that Montgomery County has a concert band in the first place. Great tune I remember well from 52, I was 10.
