Soul Worker NA/EU | Open Beta Thoughts/Impressions

After spending several hours in Soul Worker for the first two days of its open-beta, here are my thoughts. I guess you could consider this a first impressions for the NA/EU. Maybe if I continue to play and hit end game, I'll do a full game review.

I thought the combat was really engaging and enjoyable. The only downside to this game for me, is when I was googling the cast to see which characters I would like to play, the two locked ones were the only two that interested me. So I asked on the steam discussion group what the plans were to release these characters and I got this reply from [CM]thereea: Hey there!

For the release the available characters are Haru Estia, Erwin Arclight, Lilly Bloomerchen & Stella Unibell. It is our goal to provide Iris Yuma or Jin to our players, but at this point we unfortunately can't confirm when exactly this content will be available. All characters from the Korean version will anyway be released on our version.

PSO2 > Soul Worker > Closers imo

Why am I making this comparison? Because they are all instanced, anime-styled action online games.

PSO2 has flashy skills, character customization, and a feeling of rewarding gameplay (playing skillfully feels good). Main thing that PSO2 suffers is OK bosses and terrible mobs.

Soulworker has flashy skills but all skills have cooldowns, you are busy juggling your SF resource for skills and Stam resource for dodging. The bosses are fun and the mobs can kill you if you arent paying attention. If the servers stopped catching fire, I would rate Soulworker as pretty fun.

Closers have a different beat for me. All in all, i would say Closers could be fun, if it locked itself into either 3rd person (like pso2/soulworker) or 2D sidescrolling (like elsword), instead of this 2.5D thing they have got going on. Its annoying to have to line up your attacks on the same axis as your enemies and being a little off messes with your combos.

Loved the video, I agree with you, it was expected that the servers would be troublesome, they're most likely also going to do a server wipe after everything is fixed from what i've seen on the forums, I got to lvl 18 almost 19 and I wished that I could reach lvl 20 today but it seems like the server aren't going to be functioning for today, (atleast in th EN Candus server)

Tbh I went in fully expecting the servers to not cooperate. Though after my second day (Yesterday) I saw a bit of improvement. Plus they added more channels which was a plus for me. You couldnt Join someone in a dungeon unless you were in the same channel, but on the first day it was hard to get into any other channel besides the one the server put you in. Overall I've had a pretty good experience. Think I'm level 8 on my gunner character (Havent played much because of SAO Fatal bullet, Monster Hunter, Recording shit, Etc.)

One complaint of mine is the localization. A lot of text is still in Korean, and many of the story lines are very, very Engrish. There's also a lot of inconsistencies in the story, which are mostly translation errors and mistakes that the writers didn't bother to correct. Although it's not as bad as Revelation Online, the localization in this game is still very subpar.

Only problem I have had is disconnecting sometimes at the boss ... Wich is annoying but not enough to ruin the experience of the game.. Also feel like theres way to few skills.. It will get boring fast only using the same 4-6 skills.. ^^

For me, the game was really fun no server lag and its been really exciting to play with others. I'm playing Haru Estia and its been awesome since release.

I'm playing with the steam client and I picked the server that is next to the gold/premium server?

Btw that's the NA right cuz if not I'll create another character but won't have the goodies.. XD

I have played everyone but Lily. Haru is my main rn till Jin tho at lol 14. Other then server not appearing or random dcs it's as fun as I expected and I also look forward to more costumes

I kinda found it obvious that EN server is for EU and NA is for NA, like really, its that obvious. I agree that they should've labeled it differently, but they are able to test server stability this way, they had more players logging in than they expected, so I think that server stability will be fixed with this beta. And also you're right about cash shop, its weird that they havent released it yet, I could guess that its the fact they havent stabilized the web shop yet, they also plan to wipe characters just in case, so maybe it would be too much work for them to get everything that players purchased - back, since with characters, all the purchasing history would be deleted too probably. I think they should wipe characters for full release tho.

The only problem for me is clicking the na/eu server button and nothing happens, but I like the music so I just keep it open xD

all class with pros & cons.

"Haru Estia (sword)"
Pros :
・ Decent base HP.
・ High burst damage and AOE.
・ Decent SA Break rate and good SG management.
・ Can increase allies attack power.
・ Easiest character to be played.
Cons :
・ Does not excel in any single category
・ No HP self-sustain method.

"Erwin Arclight (Dual Pistols)"
Pros :
・High evasion value.
・Has the longest skill ranges.
・High burst SA Break.
・Can buff ally movespeed and SG regen.
Cons :
・Normal SG recovery method is combo-based, needs practice and timely execution of skill rotations.
・No HP self-sustain method.
・Relatively slow at mobbing.

"Lily Bloomerchen (Scythe)"
Pros :
・ Has balanced both critical damage and critical rate at highest rate among all characters.
・ Can increase allies' critical rate.
・ High SA Break rate.
・ High burst potential.
Cons :
・ High SG dependency.
・ HP sustaining skill is highly dependent on critical rate.
・ Poor SG management.

"Stella Unibell (Guitar)"
Pros :
・ Best crowd control capability among all characters.
・ Highest SG pool in the game and excellent SG management.
・ Capable to attack with high-power skills relentlessly.
・ Has highest SA break rate.
Cons :
・ Channelling skills leaves you vulnerable.
・ Aiming her ultimate and her SG recovery method needs practice.
・ Lacks burst potential; her skills have lower damage multipliers compared to other characters.

"Jin Seipatsu (Knuckles)"
Pros :
・ Has highest base HP and the highest Def among all characters.
・ Has taunt and can give nearby allies invulnerability.
・ Has highest AOE among all characters.
・ Has the Highest burst potential.among all characters.
Cons :
・ His non-ultimate nuke skills needs to be charged, leaves you vulnerable.
・ His Burst damage hard to be utilized without bothering other allies' burst damage.

"Iris Yuma (Artillery-Bombardment Hammer)"
Pros :
・ Decent AOE attacks.
・ Good SG self-sustain management.
・ Long duration crowd control.
・ Some of her skills gives a long time combo trait interval.
・ Excels on damaging enemies.
Cons :
・ Lowest base HP in game.
・ No HP self-sustain capability.
・ Slow attack animation.
