Great version of this Michael Smith song, along with Jethro Burns.

Steve was such a bright light in the music world. God, do I miss his music, his humor.

I met Michael smith in Detroit in the early 70’s. He was doing this dinner theater thing called Personals. I wound up sitting next to him. I really liked him. I still have one of his LPs.

Always loved this song along with most of Steve's work. Timeless sentiments about how "all of our lives (are) entwined to begin with " and "you know and I know there never was reason for hurt" in light of traditions, war, death, new lives and loved beginning. Love Steve and Jethro's duets.

Steve Goodman is a great piece of Chicago, and always will be. I met him at "Kiddy Land", he was with his two daughters. I was there with my wife and young son and daughter. My wife took the four kids to the bumper cars and I had about 20 minutes to talk with him. I told him that I like him guitar playing, and said an album of him and Doc Watson would be priceless. He told me that music was a business, and contracts would prevent this. This was in about 1979, well before the world went insane. Steve was a Cub fan and God took him before the Cubs first baseman let the ball go between his legs, and they lost the playoff series.

Saw Michael and his wife Barbara perform this back in the early 1970s. For some reason, I never saw Steve perform it.

Great songwriting by Michael, (who is a cranky, but nice, guy) interpreted by masters Steve and Jethro.

Who is on mandolin? I want to school with a girl named Mary Perkins in Weymouth, Ma. Mike Smith was a stainch Catholic, so real and Steve was correct when he said Mike didnt care about the big spotlight. I met Mike back in 2007 or so couple years before he died~I told him I was a street performer, guitar and voice and he reached into his cd box and gifted me 4 different cds. He could play the ever living be Jesus out of that guitar. He covered "Talkin Backwards" as well as Steve~! He also covered his own "Panther in Michigan", ...and"I brought my father with me.."He was a stunning performer and carried himself with great dignity.
Steve Goodman was in awe of him for good reason😂

I do not appreciate the fact that we can't listen to Steve Goodman's Say It Private anymore. The guy died over 30 years his estate are still thinking about money. Freaks all of them.
