200: Homemade Cant Hook or Peavey? Or a Hybrid?

Will it work for the occasional needed log roll?

The CANT HOOK was created to help roll logs on sawmills. A log with one or more slabs cut is called a "cant." Sometime in the 1850s, inventor and blacksmith Joseph Peavey developed the "peavey" as an improvement for some situations where a person needed to separate logs in a pile and then move or rotate the logs.

The peavey shines when being picked up and dropped to do multiple tasks. It can be stabbed into the ground and remain accessible without bending over. It also helps to gain leverage to move or stop a log by pivoting on the ground instead of the log.

Can I make a hybrid?

Looks good! That’s a handy tool to have! I had a student build a cant hook a few years ago and we cut the curved hook part out of flat steel plate. Enjoyed the build!

When I heard you say the word joke, I very quickly swallowed my coffee so I wouldn’t drown. Good thing I did. I have told everyone I come in contact with that joke . Loved it Logan.
As always, you did a great job with fabrication of this tool, whatever you choose to call it.
It will be interesting to see this in action in upcoming videos.
See you for the next one Logan

Looks like I am now subscribed to two channels with the odd joke inserted 😀 It is great when you can make something either from scrap or material that you already have and this was a great example. Congratulations on 200 videos

That looked like it was fun to build. It's awesome when you can take whatever you have around and make something useful out of it.

I bought one of these things recently and they do help quite a bit to help save the back and give enough leverage to roll a log that's crooked or heavy. Nice build Logan. :)

Very informative video Logan 👍🏻, grandfather clock 😳🤦🏼‍♂️😂😂😂. If you find the tube might bend maybe you could slip in the poplar inside to stiffen it up a bit 🤷🏼‍♂️. Congrats on 200 videos and more to come 👍🏻. Have a great week Logan 🙂🙋🏼‍♂️👍🏻

I thought a Peavey was a guitar amplifier. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂 I actually think that will come in really handy. I’ve thought about trying to buy one to aid in wood cutting…. I have a dream of having a sawmill one day. I do lots of dreaming…not as much affording. 👍
