The 300SL is not 100% original.
The most important thing about that car was that it was the only alloy bodied 300SL Gullwing that was produced in black.

I think you hit it on the head talking about youtube content building. I watch lots of car repair channels centered on various levels of fabrication. From Hot Rod Guy mostly relying on replacement panels through Carthage who makes measurements and gap size a PhD level to Yorkshire Car Restoration who seem to always find cars with 7 square inches of good metal and make their own replacement panels. I'm sure they all would pass up some of the cars they work on if not for the youtube money coming in. I actually think this is a good thing because cool cars that in the past would be converted into Campbell soup cans are put back on the road.

I believe the 356 was extremely low mileage, that’s the only reason it sold for so much money.
