In some other states, school taxes are not tied to property values. They're funded through other means. Seeing a school tax on a mortgage can be a shock for new residents.

I love Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities. People are friendly, sports, arts, the schools (except for city) are some of the best in the country. The weather is much warmer than it was when I was a kid and we have more clear days. Winters have been mild over the past few years

I'm moving there for the weather. I'm from Portland, OR and I need a place with lots of grey, cloudy, rainy days. Sun is okay once in a while but too much drains my energy and makes me depressed.

They say Pittsburgh and Western PA in general have 4 seasons: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Construction 🤣🤣

The plus with the Fort Pitt Tunnel is coming out of it heading into downtown the view is amazing!

Pittsburgh doesn't have a loop highway. You have to go through the City to get to another side, that means one or two tunnels...

Another thing many people would find problematic is the fact that it's almost necessary to have a car unless you live in certain neighborhoods within the urban core. We do have a bus system and a (very small / limited) "subway" but in general the public transit is subpar and lots of the region just isn't walkable period.

Especially true in Pittsburgh, but in ANY city, it's not a great idea to live near any body of water -- whether creek, river, bay, lake, or ocean. You can study history & control risk all you want, but at the end of the day you cannot study or control forces of

I swear, there could be 9 out of 10 days that are sunny and people would still complain about 'dreary' weather.

Thanks for the honest review. Hope to visit Pittsburgh in May to see if we would like to move there. No place is perfect. We currently live in Texas and allergies are a sevre issue here also and although it's sunny, it gets way too hot in the summer.

Lived here all my life and think you hit all the marks and you were very honest with the issues which are all correct.

10 Pittsburgh City Detractors
1) Earned Income City tax 4% compared to 1% outside city limits
2) Crime is significantly above the National average and getting worse each year.
3) Catch and release policy for under 18 year old criminals. They are back on street the same day.
4) Mayor is all talk and does nothing.
5) Pittsburgh city schools are among the worst in the state and dangerous.
6) Allegheny County has the highest property taxes in Western PA and submitted a proposal to increase taxes 45% for 2025
7) High commercial vacancy because workers refusing to return to office after COVID. Too dangerous and expensive
8) Homeless camps everywhere. Crime, Drugs, and pandering everywhere.
9) Pittsburgh will soon pass Philadelphia as PA's number one Ghetto City,
10) Three major employment opportunities: Medical, Education or Government. Two of the three exist on tax revenue and no one ever gets fired for poor performance. A recipe for collapse.

Ive lived here for almost 40 years. This video is spot on. Let me just emphasize traffic/road construction even outside of the tunnels is constant an so annoying. Also, property taxes especially school taxes are high...think $6k/yr on an assessed value of $240k. On the plus side..i feel safe almost anywhere i go in the suburbs.

When I lived in Pittsburgh, I didn't like the feeling that everything was aging - and not in a quaint way - it felt somewhat dreary. The number one thing I REALLY disliked was all the one-ways. It seemed that I rarely could come home the way that I went - anywhere :-) and roads were poorly marked.

i love it here, moved here in 2012, use to live 45 min south of San Francisco, my allergies were worse in Calif., PRO's less expensive, nice people, not crowded, beautiful all year round beautiful hills, creeks, waterfalls, trees, wildlife, deer, owls, hawks, birds, beaver, muskrat, coyote, i saw a badger once, yes a badger on Coraopolis Rd in Coraopolis heading to McKees Rocks you have to drive slow and watch out for deer, i put an electronic deer whistle that chirps it has on/off button, saved me about 8 times from hitting deer, etc... CONS __POTHOLES, TAILGATERS, BAD DRIVERS, summer can be hot and humid, winter can be dreary and cold, light snow here/there, heavy snow once in awhile, but when it warms up and melts, it is a muddy mess. Rains alot which can be cold and damp, can be very foggy in the morning, esp. if you live near a river. Weather in winter is schizophrenic, one day it is 65 and nice, next day snows, or it snows, then 2 days later it is 80 degrees (true story), so you cant put all your summer clothes away or winter, you have to keep a little bit of both out. If you are not use to snow, you will have to buy ALL SEASON TIRES every 2 - 3 yrs, the tires dont last long on the curvery/hilly roads around here, alot of wear and tear. Or put on snow tires every November - April then take them off and put regular tires back on, Winter Proof house after Halloween. ___ If i won the lotto and could live anywhere in the world, i would stay here.

Thanks for the info! FYI That microphone needs the Blue label to be pointed at your mouth, and in cardiod (the heart shape) mode is the most common. It doesn't pick up in all directions evenly.

The worst part about the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse is that that bridge was built in 1970, BY FAR not close to the oldest bridge in town. Many date to the 1920s and 1930s, Hell the Smithfield Street Bridge is from the '80s... The 1880s!

One huge thing is that most houses are built over old mine shafts. If you think yours isn't, you'll be surprised by searching the web. Penn State has a great site for searching old maps that overlay Google Earth to see where they are. The mine insurance is very cheap through the state of PA. Good luck 👍
