Sumela - 1600 year old ancient Orthodox monastery

The monastery is constructed on rocks reached by a path through the forest, nestled in a steep cliff at an altitude of about 1,200 meters. The monastery was founded around AD 386, during the reign of the emperor Theodosius I (375–395).During its long history, the monastery fell into ruin several times and was restored.
On the walls of the monastery there are a beautiful frescoes .
