Kafka, yes, changed my reading life, but had entirely forgotten about reading "Conversations" years ago.

fabulous...kafka also one of my favourite whose books and stories change every time i re-read them, and even depending on the time of the day...Kafka the author that continues to be more relevant every decade...when i moved to prague in 1990, he was the reason i decided on prague...the 2 years i was there, i took only 4 books with me in english: complete rilke, complete celan, the bible (i wanted to read it), ulysses and complete stories of kafka....to this day, that copy sits on the back of my toilet....will look for Janouch's book....great vid marc

Read both The Outsider and the Mersault Investigation. Both brilliant. Interesting to hear how you choose books. My choice is the shelves in the basement of The Leeds Library which was established in the 18 th century. Endless back listed / out of print treasures b

Excellent Marc .. looking forward to listening and watching your video review of these two books properly later on .. I still have not read any Kafka, I know I am a philistine it’s just so many books and so little time and an ever expanding TBR list .. but I do have a copy of The Trial 😌 anyhow just keep on keeping on with your unflinching honest reviews, much love and best wishes 👍🏼

Ah, yes! "Conversations with Kafka" has been one that I have been wanting to read for a while now. I am glad to hear it highlights his insight of his time...I was just writing about the three volume biography by Stach when you mentioned the author here. I didn't see that was who wrote the second book you talk about. I was going to say how the second volume of biographies (Years of Insight) highlight this side of Kafka well. And I have to ask, is that play you wrote inspired by the book by Citati published anywhere?

Interesting! I actually am not sure if I’ve ever read any Kafka. If I have, probably just the metamorphosis.
