Telehealth helps provide needed care for students at select SPS schools. A virtual visit with a health care provider takes place in the school’s health room, aided by the school nurse.

Here’s how it works:

If a student has a minor injury or illness while at school, the school nurse will determine if a Telehealth evaluation is a good option and contact the parent or guardian about a potential Telehealth visit.

Parents or guardians are welcome to join the visit online or in person.

School nurses are equipped to take vital signs, like temperature or pulse rate, and use scopes to allow a provider to see the issue, then diagnose, prescribe and/or advise additional care.

Visits typically last 15 minutes and are conducted in the school’s health room with the school nurse.

Families are always provided with an after-visit summary from the provider.

If a follow up is needed, families have the option to establish care with a local providers who has a physical location in Spokane.

Telehealth is currently available Mullan Road, Grant, Franklin, Garfield, Stevens and Holmes elementaries, Glover Middle School and Ferris High School.

Most insurance providers cover telehealth, but students can still access services even if telehealth is not covered or a student is uninsured.
