Initial Testing:

Laboratory Research: Salk and his team conducted extensive laboratory research, using killed-virus techniques to develop the vaccine. These preliminary tests showed promising results in producing immunity without causing the disease.
Animal Trials: The vaccine was first tested on monkeys and other animals to ensure its safety and efficacy. These trials were successful, paving the way for human testing.
Testing on Himself:

Personal Commitment: To demonstrate his confidence in the vaccine’s safety, Salk took the extraordinary step of testing it on himself. He believed that by personally taking the vaccine, he could set an example and help to build public trust.
Self-Inoculation: Salk administered the vaccine to himself in 1953. He monitored his own health closely for any adverse reactions or side effects. His willingness to be the first human subject highlighted his dedication and the importance of the vaccine.
Testing on Family:

Extending the Test: After successfully vaccinating himself without any negative effects, Salk extended the trial to his wife, Donna, and their three sons. This family trial further demonstrated the vaccine’s safety and bolstered confidence in its potential

My sister and I were among the first children to receive this vaccine. Our father was a physician, and our vaccinations were publicized locally to encourage parents to accept the vaccine for their children.

And even though all of this, people are refusing to vaccinate their kids. So diseases like this are making a comeback.

God please show this video in schools so the next generation is educated and not anti vac and we won’t have all the diseases resurfacing in the next decades

My grandmother survived polio as a kid. The doctors told her mum to let her die because nothing could be done (this was in 1927, so no vaccine). Her mum said no and succeeded in keeping my grandmother alive. She's still alive today.

to be fair, not even death was a worst side effect than being paralyzed for life

My mom had polio as a young child that left her right leg about an inch and a half shorter than the left leg.

I had a great aunt that had polio. Luckily she didn't have to be in an iron lung, she lost the use of her legs and wore leg braces the rest of her life.

I wish we wouldn't use euphemisms like "under privileged" and just saw the actual demographics

Quick question, this vaccine is extremely effective at eradicating the virus, why doesn’t say the vaccine for hpv also eradicate hpv at the same rate?
