White LED flashlights will also wash cross hatch out to naked eye. Used to rebuild locomotive engines. Led flashlight were not allowed to be used on engine inspection.

We had the exact same thing happen to my dad's lly, we pulled out the motor ran a quick hone in it cleaned everything really good and put 1 new piston in it, definitely not the right way but it saved our business.

Duramax, Cummins, PowerChoke they all do this if you don't maintain the stuff.

Invest in an overhead hoist to save your mechanics, backs and arm. Number one injury to mechanics is over exertion.

Also chrome sockets have a nasty habit of shattering when driven by an impact gun.

Detroit Diesels used steel pistons for decades. I worked on all of them including the Series 60 and 50. Never saw this happen. Cummins CNG engines did this until they started using steel pistons.

The one thing people forget is the Low sulfur fuel. It lacks lubricity now, and is more attractive to biologics. A good grade additive must be used to keep the fuel clean and slippery for the high pressure fuel components.

In past I commented about standard GM response to ticking noise ...
They commented that it is normal do to crank / bearing causing noise to resonate up thru block..
They stated using Mobile Delvac 1300 oil ..

Now this found ...Some of problems may be this and GM is just using normal thing on these engines ..

This seems to be a very common problem of injectors damaging the top of distance why doesn't the manufacturers set back or change the angle of the injectors not to get that close to the top of the pistons?

Is injection failure a given in duramax engines? Or is there something that can be done besides normal maintenance to completely eliminate this disaster.

At what age should i get my injectors checked? I have always changed my fuel filter. 216k on my 5.9 Cummins.
