The Parthenon is an ancient Greek temple built on the Acropolis hill of Athens, Greece.
It is a temple made of white Pentelic marble and was dedicated to goddess Athena, the patroness of the city of Athens.
The construction began in 447 BC after the orders of the Athenian statesman Pericles. The architects were Iktinos and Callicrates, while the supervisor of the sculpture decoration was Phidias. The construction was completed in 438 BC and the last sculptures were placed in 432 BC.

It is a building of doric architecture, combining features of the Ionic order too. The sculptures can be divided in three types: the metopes, the pediments and the frieze.
Most of the Parthenon sculptures were taken in 1801-1812 by Lord Elgin and are now in the British Museum while most of the rest are in the Acropolis Museum.

The entrance to the main temple was from the east main door. Inside stood the gigantic statue of goddess Athena Parthenos (Virgin). The statue made by Phidias was created in gold and ivory and stood around 12 metres high.

The Parthenon is considered to be a symbol of ancient Greece, democracy and western civilization.

I cry inside when I see the Parthenon today and think about the abuse it has suffered over the centuries and the beauty and glory it has lost. Your video makes this very vivid.

Absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!! I studied architecture in Greece and Turkey in 2002 on a study abroad trip with Texas A & M. Watching this video really brings forth the beauty, magnitude, perspective and showcases the extraordinary talent that it took to design and build this majestic temple! Thank you for creating this amazing video.

It's just so satisfying seeing the level of accuracy on the placement of the sculptures, which is often overlooked when it comes to reconstructions of the Parthenon. Exceptional, a joy watching every second of it.

It's so beautiful to see what the Parthenon would have looked like during it's time. It's so beautiful and mesmerizing. I'm glad to go on this little tour ❤️

There's a beautiful, full scale replica in Nashville, Tennessee. It wasn't built for the worlds fair and was meant to be temporary but people loved it so much they made it permanent.

Because we live in the *NOW* with all the technology at our disposal we tend to think we are better than our ancestors. But the top engineers and architects have admitted we could not build the Parthenon as perfect as the ancient Greek builders

If there’s a building that represents mankind’s abilities, this is it. Personally, I think it’s the most important structure ever built, PERIOD. I’m glad to see much of the restoration that’s currently being done. But it’s not going to go nearly as far as it should. This is one of several historic ancient buildings that should be COMPLETELY RESTORED, obviously with as much of the original materials as possible. Additional materials should be quarried from the same locations as the original. By restoration, I mean FULL RESTORATION, ROOF AND ALL. We need to ensure that this priceless building will last thousands of years into the distant future. If we don’t do something, eventually, 500-1000 years into the future, our distant descendants will be looking at a pile of rubble. That would be a huge travesty to humanity itself.

As for those who want these structures to be left alone? For what purpose? So they can continue to deteriorate into dust? That would be history lost when it didn’t have to be. In the distant future, today’s reconstruction would become part of the Parthenon’s history.
