Figuring out the fuel issue in Vansquatch. Replaced fuel filter, found "mud" rust in the intake. Replaced alternator and voltage regulator. Now replacing the fuel pressure regulator to see if it helps

------

UPDATE 3/21/17: It was excactly as I suspected. There was so much rust in the two tanks, that both fuel pumps were cemented and had very low output, as well as a vacuum leak. The return fuel filter was also gummed up with rust and was causing the engine to run rich. The van eventually had too many problems so I had to let it go, but I figured I could share my experience with you guys.

One has a 1986 Ford E-350 Cutaway, running a 460 cu. in. 7.5 Liter 4-Barrel Carburetor, for a 27 Foot RV that has been plagued with fuel pump and sender malfunction issues for four years. Finally, found the problem - power to the Electric Fuel Pump Relay, Passes Through the Oil Pressure Sender Unit on the Rear of the Block, and that had an Intermittent Connection. Hope this Helps.

I had a problem with rough idle then couldn’t hold an idle then wouldn’t start. My 1990 e150 has fuel injection. I was thinking fuel pump. My buddy said check the MAP sensor before you go down the fuel rabbit hole, he was right, a nice $73.00 motorcraft MAP sensor later and the van never ran better.

Did you end up fixing it? I have the exact same problem and found out it was the diaphragm on the fuel pump that went.
Anyways let me know what you did and if it worked.

I'm having the same problem with my 87 econoline 5.8 I'm about to change the fuel filter. I hope that works. Also when I spray carb cleaner in the intake it seems to get the van running for a little bit IDK if that will help in telling me what the problem is. Please get back to me thank you

I just bought an 89 runs for apx 50 seconds then dies. Gotta crank the key a few times then usually starts back up. My guess. Fuel pump. Supposedly everything else has been replaced.

at 25 seconds what is that little silver cylinder thing in the top left corner? Would that happen to be the inertia switch?
