“The only family thing about any job is the dysfunction, the judgement, and the lack of accountability” -Jordan 2023

"We're like a family here!"

"Oh, my mistake, I thought I was interviewing for a JOB. I already have a family."

Completely agree. "We're a family" means "we want you to feel responsible for things you're not when management is bad/inexistent"

"Family" is how employers say that they're chronically short staffed. It's an immediate warning that theyll be expecting you to work whenever/doing whatever they ask well outside of your job responsibilities for as little pay as possible. Probably the biggest red flag ever! You're so right!

The biggest red flag to me is, " we have a policy against discussing wages " Somebody is getting underpaid, and that somebody could be you at any point.

“I’m sorry, I’m not looking for another family I already have one and they don’t pay me.”

“We’re like a family here.” Yes, and like a family, this business will have no problem pushing things onto you outside of your contract because you would/should be willing to go above and beyond for “family.”

Biggest red flag, is that the employees at the workplace look miserable. Don't do it.

When an employer says " we treat you like family", i always counter " and nobody screws you over like family"😊

when they hire you immediately and say "welcome to the family" you know you're about to experience multiple human rights violations 💀

This is so incredibly true. They want you to sacrifice like you would for your family, but the moment it helps them, you are out without any support.

When they say “we’re like a family, ” it means you’re gonna be the oldest child, doing the most amount of work, for no gratitude and little pay.

It may be true that the work place is “like a family” but they always seem to leave out “abusive” from it when they tell you

Everytime I hear we are like a family it was true. Like every family, there are favorites, scapegoats, different expectations, boundary issues and most of all, EVERYONE plays by a separate set of rules.

100% + no boundaries and hypocrisy 24/7. Professional distance is how you keep a workplace sane.

"We're like a family "
"OH, so I'm not gonna like you either"

Not to mention that they’ll TELL you “family comes first” but they’re not talking about YOUR family when they say it.

"We're like a family here"

"Oh, great, I was looking for someone to help me watch my daughter while I'm at work, my other family members are always so busy, you mind stopping by? I can't afford a babysitter."

"OH, well, we're not 'THAT' type of family!"

"Haha, oh, what a coincidence, since I'm not 'that' type of employee, either"

As someone quitting a job where that was said. YES GET OUT SAVE YOURSELF.
She made me feel bad for not working.
Someone who had an allergy attack at work was blamed for having the attack.
She made someone cry and took money out of their paycheck.
Those places will suck the life out of you. RUN
