If you always play with VPN you are not a risk. Only if you turn it on and off it seems
When you turn on your vpn for Destiny but forgot to the next time you play... BANNED FOR ONLY USING VPN TO MAKE THE GAME EASIER

I don't think Bungie is saying that a VPN by itself is bannable. They're saying that using a VPN with the specific purpose of network manipulation to gain an advantage is against TOS, which is what Lep apparently did

they specifically said using a VPN "to gain advantage" can lead to bans. Not just using a VPN in general. Is intent hard to prove? absolutely, but that's their problem, not ours.

It's not VPN specifically, it's "network manipulation". My read of those tweets is that if you use a VPN for personal security reasons and maintain a high quality connection, you're fine. If have no VPN but instead use Stacks of Japan to teleport around the map and punch people, you risk a ban. Intent matters.

Now ban players with XIM and Chronus on

So are they finally going to ban ZKMushroom for doing this for YEARS in pvp?

They'll ban vpns but not ximmers? Weird.

The ban is about intent for the VPN, not the usage itself. If you intend to use it to gain an advantage, then yes it’s a ban-able offense. Bungie can’t expect a player with bad internet to go buy a better connection just for this one game. But they can expect you not to use a vpn to gain an advantage in their game.

As someone who doesn't use a VPN, I dont know anything.

Theyve said MULTIPLE TIMES network manipulation of any kind is a bannable offense. This isnt new. Using a VPN as a lag button is the same as using a cheat to do it.

Bungie has always been pretty clear that network manipulation is against ToS, and this is obviously network manipulation.

It's functionally the same thing as netlimiting, but using distance to cut bandwidth instead of software. No normal VPN user is randomly pingponging between continents at the perfect time to pull off an exploit.

Misuse of VPNs has been bannable for a long time. People have been banned for using them to exploit matchmaking or force wintrading lobbies. This pseudo-netlimiting is just another form of network manipulation and should be bannable.

The fact the people still go into contest raids with their frames capped crazy low because it gives a legitimate gameplay advantage is wild.

If only this video was sponsored by a VPN lol!

You know that’s not what this is about here, come on.

I live in Iran and i dont have access to unfiltered Internet so i am forced to Use a VPN. I never cheated or anything i just want to play the game that I'm passionate about.

They're not saying using VPNs is a violation. What they're saying is that lagswitching, which is what Lep did, is a violation. This is not new. Intentionally exploiting the game has always been a violation. Lagswitching has been thing longer than some Destiny players have been alive.

They have no way of knowing whether you use VPN or you simply have bad internet.

I wonder if they took this proactive approach on twitter because detection and enforcement would be a nightmare. They saw an opportunity to discourage a behavior in the community for which they might not have a good detection mechanism and took it. The tweet was also pretty brazen.

The afk macro isn't against TOS as far as I've can tell, but is a"Code of Conduct or License Agreement Violation". Though this is from the "why was I banned" explainer article and not the code of conduct proper.

I'm sure bungie can give a in depth detail on why using vpn can get wild but what if others that use vpn cheat with the same ip, idk how it works but i remember a conversation on it from a discord lobby and basically most used it for leveling up your kd very fast and easy but there was a risk of security detecting your activity as suspicious
