Andy You're a star-The Killers: The real meaning
Показать описание
Upon my discovery of hearing some of my fellow peers talking about a song was written about a teacher named Andy Messersmith at my high school I began to wonder, after listening to it I began to deeply ponder upon this greatly. Knowing about Brandon Flowers and what he stands for as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I highly doubt that the two meanings of the songs that people had come up with were the right ones, one saying that Brandon has homosexual feelings towards a person in high school I highly doubt. And the second that it was to get back at Andy Messersmith for bullying him in high school (after adking Andy about this he said that he didn't bully him) I don’t think this song was meant to get back at him. Once I listened to the song I could see both meanings in the lyrics of this haunting, yet positive song. I then did more research and in fact found out that both (Andy and Brandon) were alumni from Juab High School in Nephi, Utah. When I discovered this I then dove deeper thinking to myself “Brandon wouldn’t do something like this to humiliate another person” so I began to watch live performances of the song and noticed that Brandon would say that the song was for a Friend, or a Gentlemen, even an old Friend. The interesting part that tugged at me was that these are all titles of respect, and not hatred, and he didn’t even do it with a hint of sarcasm in his voice, Brandon was often very serious with the song. Then after months of months of listening to this song I came up with what I like to call the real meaning of Andy, you’re a star by The Killers and deemed the other two meanings of this song pseudo created by Brandon to throw others off what the song was really about so that he and Andy would be the only ones to know if that. (When Brandon was asked about the song he simply said it is up to interpretation and he doesn't give the true meaning. When Andy is asked he has gotten so tired of ignorant high school students accusing him of something he's done that he shouldn't have to defend himself). The lyrics and there meaning are below
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
Listen Andy, Listen Andy
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
Listen Andy, Listen Andy
On the mats with the boys, you think you're alone
With the pain that you drain from love
You caused pain because of your actions
In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
'Cause Andy, you're a star
Get down
Leave your number on the locker and I'll give you a call
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
Listen Andy, Listen Andy
Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
Listen Andy, Listen Andy
On the streets, such a sweet face jump in town
In the staff room the verdict is in
In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
'Cause Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes but mine
Andy, you're a star
Here he is telling him thank you
In nobody's eyes but mine
Andy, you're a star
Thank you Andy, Thank you Andy
In nobody's eyes
In nobody's eyes but mine
So in conclusion the meaning of this song was found out in a interview with Andy messersmith, there was indeed no bulling of any kind, and the two were infact good friends, it was to thank Andy for all the good times ans is simply saying is Thank you and that he would be nothing without him.
In my experience with Andy Messersmith I know him to be a good, just, caring, stubborn, and a lovable man. And tries to help every student that he comes into contact while teaching. Though he likes to tease his student, he always wants them to try their best
Those who seek the alternative meanings of the song are those who seek to spread bold faced slander about two honest men.
