How clean is the electricity you use to change the batteries?

"They don't produce horrible emissions like that of combustion engines." Creating the batteries doesn't require factories or mining or anything that might be bad for the environment... I get it though, in the long run, they'll be better overall. But not by as much as people think. Then there's no guarantee the batteries will be recycled properly either. It's almost as if we should be looking to try and create, Idk, a vehicle that runs on nothing but water or air, something that we won't run out of unless our planet goes "bye-bye".
