In my opinion inception’s main problem was it’s over simplification of his ideas for general audiences which left them feeling shallow and dull like a sword that has been blunted so much that it can no longer draw blood, for example the ending is supposed to be up to interpretation on whether or not it’s a dream however because their are so many suggestions that it is a dream (the children not aging a day, the house being exactly as he remembered, seemingly teleporting from the airport acknowledged by Leonardo Dicaprio’s face) the only thing suggesting that it is reality being that because a object might fall over. Like the sword which is too blunt to draw blood from being used too frequently the ending is too dull to draw our attention from being emphasised too much. In conclusion the ending doesn’t feel like a message of accepting your reality with dark possible undertones, like dark city, but an ending that says give in to your fantasies and ignore reality.
