Who needs drums?!

So I had a crazy idea. I wanted to see if this would actually work and it did! I miced up two drum stools and a cardboard box and triggered them with Slate Digital Trigger. So you technically don't need a drum set to record drums! I played a little bit and made it into a song. At the end of this video I did a 'making of' section to show you how I made it all! I'm new to Pro Tools still!

I think most drummers are familiar with triggering but i've never seen it done on drum thrones and a cardboard box as a kick drum. It's just a pretty clever way to demo a method and get a point across. Nice job Jimmy!

I was being sarcastic btw. I know how long triggers have been around and I know it's nothing new, and I've been using them on tracks for a while. I know this isn't brilliant and I know you know everything there is to know about engineering... but not everybody does. Thanks for the comment : )

Genius :) We use Slate Digital for our drum tracks and we love the sound, never even thought of trying this.

This is why I love pro tools! I was doing a recording with my old break beat metal crossover band and my kick drum just wasn't sounding right... I was triggering 2 sounds as well as the acoustic sound live (more processed and boomy for the break beat sections and clicky for the metal sections) but on the recording day the trigger just didnt want to know.. so we made 2 extra copies of the kick drum and used them as trigers.. Worked perfectly and saved hours of messing about

I do this a lot when practicing at home. I used pillows as my drum kit because I don't have a drum kit yet but I'm buying a Pearl Vision 5pc kit this August with a Zildjian A customs :D
