Test Fet - UF3C065040K3S
These fets are too expensive to jerk around with to learn like I'm doing so don't do it. Some of them are extremely impressive and have fantasy specs but the cost is intimidating. Using same UCC27322 gate driver and CD4046 VCO to drive it at a variable fixed frequency. I caught the last second of the gate breakdown on the scope before death and it was about a 40v pk to pk ringing that ramped up super fast. I also didn't notice til later that my arm loading was combined with the secondary former melting and deforming all to hell at that power level. Can actually see it sloping over toward end of the video. So right about as I detuned it with my arm it was already sagging over with a melted former.. Total lack of foresight as it should have been obvious to me that thin plastic former would not run CW like that for long.

To further improve gate drive any traces or conductors on the high side should be isolated by some distance away from the gate driving traces. Any gate ringing at all should really not be tolerated and my tests were already kind of pushing it. Such gate ringing may be easier to manage with resonant drive. The 4 pin versions of these mosfets would be handy as they have like a separate set of G-S pins for the gate drive loop. Not sure if some kind of TVS diode is a good idea or not for these switches.. cheap slow zeners are not going to do much about the ringing. I'm picturing a basic PCB driver board but feeding the gate driver and mosfet on a separate copper plane layout that is very compact and using the 4-pin version of the fets.

This 1200V fet I still have is an awesome switch as well so I need to utilize it on something worthy but I'll continue testing with it on a better wound coil at around 2.5MHz or so for audio modulation. I know I can get away with using this circuit up to a limit until figuring a better layout. I'm gonna write a letter to Oprah Winfrey to see if she wants to donate to the SiC Puppy fund.

Hey dude, do you have the schematic for this circuit ?

I also had a doubt about making a class e set up with a schmitt trigger oscillator with interruption and running the power rail with a ramped input voltage at about 50 v max . Would it lead to longer arcs or would tuning this be a nightmare.

If I tune it at a constant 50v input then adjust the tuning with the ramp would it be better .
