The budget will increase taxes by £40bn, with the lion's share coming from a £25bn rise in employers' national insurance contributions.

Sky's political editor Beth Rigby says she hasn't seen anything like it and feels it doesn't match Labour's manifesto.

Beth Rigby has just realised how much she personally will be paying in tax. Propper Slapped.

I am one of the 'Working Class' who lost my job this week at a local authority, as they cannot afford to keep me, and I earn £35K a year. BS.

£3 Billion a year to Ukraine but not even £200 million for homelessness.

Presenters should declare their own Tax interests before posing as unbiased arbiters. BR looks like she was about to inherit big style.

Always amazes me how the UK population expects things to get better without paying for it.

Was never a fan of Beth Rigby how wrong I was. Fair play to her for stating the facts and not backing down.

Don't they know how it comes across when wealthy politicians do "it's not a direct tax rise - they will just have to work a bit harder to cover the cost for their employer"

manifestos from now on should be legally binding

Problem, a dangerously indebted country, the Labour party's answer, more grossly irresponsible borrowing. The future is bleak indeed.

This "big moment" and the "biggest budget I have ever covered" amounts to just 6.6% of the UK's total tax revenue, so why the big issue? Covid, test & trace and dodgey PPE contracts cost the UK a fortune, clearly this money has to be paid back at some point. These proposed taxes fall upon the shoulders of those most able to afford them. Possibly explains why the Tories were so angry during the Budget speech. I'm sure Sunak can afford the extra £450 in tax for his private Jet to California.

40Bn isn't actually that much, the total annual spend is 1200Bn (1.2Tn), so this increases is only about 3.7%.

They want to remove £22 Billion debt by pulling in £41 Billion. It matters not about where this is spent what will they have at end... another huge debt or huge profit???
