Citrus fruits of Palaia Epidavros | Epidavros

In many of its settlements the Municipality of Epidavros resembles a large grove of citrus trees. The air is always filled with the fragrance of lemon blossom and the essential oils of the fruits. The region is famed for its oranges of the Merlin variety, which ripen in winter time. However, it also produces juicy Valencias, from the end of March until late September. So, summer visitors to the area have the opportunity of sampling oranges freshly picked from the trees.

Most of the citrus trees are in Archaia (Palaia) and Nea Epidavros. Their cultivation is favoured by the microclimate of these areas, which are warmer due to their proximity to Methana, which is of volcanic origin.
