I love Jess Franco! I’ve seen 51 of his films. My favorite is love letters of a Portuguese nun, and then I also love the other side of the mirror, faceless, Jack the Ripper, female vampire, and killer barbys. Many more too but too many to list

I think the only Jess Franco movie I have watched so far has been 'Oasis of the Zombies' and I've ordered 'Night of the Eagles' (also released as 'Fall of the Eagles' and 'War Song') starring Christopher Lee and Mark Hamill.

After doing a quick Google search, I was amazed that Jess Franco had directed 199 films and he had managed to work with an impressive cast of actors over the years despite his movies being very exploitative and not particularly my cup of tea for the most part (more of an acquired taste).

Still, 'Marquis de Sade's Justine' looks visually impressive with better production values in terms of sets, locations, costumes, lots of extras in crowd shots, etc, so that is something the film has going for it, I guess. :)

0:38 Another great review, pizowell, but I just wanted to mention a minor, minor point that the Marquis de Sade was born in 1740 which is therefore the 18th century (not the 17th century) and he died in 1814 (the 19th century). :)

1977 Cruel Passions is a much better depiction of Sade's Justine. Good luck finding it.

Is there a movie you might compare it to? I was getting some I Spit on Your Grave vibes from your descriptions, save for the vengeance aspect. And I quite like ISoYG.

I love Palance playing a sleazemeister in Euro films; this, Emanuelle/Black Cobra, etc and his villains in Italian Westerns, its funny my wife likes him from City Slickers and when I told her he played these types of characters years ago she was like 'Not Curly' LOL.... Virgin Among the Living Dead & Female Vampire are my fav Franco films, have around 60 of his. Justine I dont mind but its defintely not his sleaziest, and yes agree on Kinski VERY restrained in this film.

Franco's a bit of an acquired taste, be it good or bad. Usually bad. But any director who blesses us with the delectable Soledad Miranda is fine with me. Vampyros Lesbos is easily my fave Franco film, plus we are exposed to the lovely Soledad. Sigh....

I'd have to give this little number a hard pass. I am not a fan of torture porn. Or ANY porn. My ex-husband had a friend that was a porn freak; NOT fun when he came over for a "bring a VHS from Blockbuster night" and I was the ONLY female in the room. YUCK!!!
