When you start working for yourself you learn very quickly it's not how pretty it is it's how well it works

That's beautiful, definitely prefer practical setups over the fancy complicated ones

“Come on”
Heard that often when I used to work with some OK & TX guys!

At 65 with a damaged back those oxy bottles are a big deal. Ive decided to go the next size down and not fight the weight.

My shop portable was set up very similar, except for a tandem axle, 16' bed, pipe rack, V track and vice.

Heck yeah 👍 reminds me of new guys at job sites making fun of my ‘89 Dakota Sport I drove for many years. They’d laugh a bit less when they realized it was only a short step into a bed that I could lay 4x8 sheets flat in while they were reaching overhead to their racks or floppy dangling out the back of their “full size trucks”.

Later I’d laugh at the fuel pump and I’ve tried to remember the lesson of unimpressive convenient functionality.

All you need is a removable roof to keep everything dry. I made a gable roof for my tack rig out of 1/8" tread plate. Easy to remove with forklift.

I’m all about practical rigs. Working off a big lifted truck climbing up and down for tools and shit all day gets old quick. I want easy access to the tools and equipment to make my day easier.

Hey Ross, tell me, why you guys use acetylene rather than propane when propane last longer an is cheaper?

That’s right come on😂 great work if it works why complicate it. to Ross thanks for your content and time doing these videos I’ve learned allot over the year I been following your channel most are stingy with advise and when we hear them talk no one wants to do it and go to wood work only but you you make everyone want to weld and do it right just know your limits thanks again have a good one

I love my ranger 8. Shes been good to me. Ive even arc gouged at time with her along with a northstar 20 gallon compressor i found on marketplace.
Would i like to have a all in one machine with scroll compressor and 400amps? Absolutely, but not for 25 grand. I mean dang. Search around for good deals and build what ya want thats practical. Too many people get caught up on "i dont have a red face 300 this or 40 gallon that"
Man if it makes money do it

Stainless diesel marine grade Lincoln torpedo pure DC generator. A 6 Ton truck. A hoist. An air compressor that can run two air hammers. A good indoor propane or diesel generator. A power lift ramp. Stainless boxes for grinders, clamps, porta-bands, sawzalls, fall protection harnesses, rigging, extension cords, hard hats, gloves, etc.

My brother in law was a pipeline welder. He welded on the Alaskan pipeline, was all over the country. He had to have his truck winched down some pretty step mountains several times. I'd be worried about the ground clearance under those tanks. They get into some pretty rough terrain sometimes.

How do you keep that white hat so clean ?

I want to run a trailer rig behind my jeep.

I like trailer welding rigs the best because you can detach and store the trailer in your garage. I don't like having my rig attached to my truck, because it encourages thieves.

There's no safety guards and those thanks

I don't disagree, that trailer is set up great for mobile welding, but I personally hate having trailer to pull everyday and I don't think it would make it on many of the jobsites I work on. Regardless though if it works, it works. Don't need a $100k weldin car to start a business.
