This with black screen nice ..this song captures the essense of the recovering addicts i got to know thru AA..& THE 90s& every time i hear it I remember being shocked & mesmerized by the fact that so many sobriety sisters&brothers were(&still are if still living) heroine addicts..i had never to my knowledge known anyone who used it b4 AA ..some living some unfortunately not..the lyric the spoon that was your womb..one described it to me in those exact words..anyway .thank you for making this on black screen simple lyrics white on black is way better than getting caught up in videos(adhd style!) missing the reason you want to hear this or anything else..the 90s certainly had its own incredible soundtrack..it hits me in the solar plexes/ takes me right back there..learning to love& let go of others in recovery..pure w/out distractions.much gratitude

For starters a black balloon represents a loved one that lost his or her life due to addictions.

When he states this “ a thousand other boys can never reach you, How could I have been the one? At some point of his life he needed to be save and regardless of him being at his lowes point, she chose him and saved him when she had many other people wanting her.

She grew up in a destructive environment in the past “you know the lies they always told you, and the love you never knew, what’s the things they never showed you that
swallowed the light from the sun inside your room”. Lack of love from parents, things that she never got to do or known, and her room was temporary comfort zone.

As the relationship went on all this insecurities hit her, and by using heroine it was her escape “I saw the world spin beneath you, and scatter like ice from spoon, that was your womb”.

He really loves her so at some point he did heroine too, but he managed to over come it. It’s time for him to save her now. “I almost feel into that hole in your life, you are not thinking about Tomorrow, cause you were the same as me but on your knees”. Again he was once an addict but he over come it.

“Coming down the world turned over and Angels fall without you there, and I go on as you get colder or are you someone’s prayer.

This line hits me. As she is the process of her using heroine and as time goes on, her body gets cold. His world turns over and the angels fall without you there, meaning even though she is not mentally there, God keeps her save. “Or are you someone’s prayer” meaning either someone has her on their prayers for her to be safe.

“And there is no time left for losing, when you stand they fall”. Meaning if she could become her addictions she would be capable of achieving everything she wants to do.

This other line hits me

“Coming down the years turned over and the angels fall without you there” meaning that it’s being years and some how he still there and she still safe some how.

“And I’ll go on and lead you home and I’ll become what you became to me”

He will stay by her side, he will fight for her to become her addiction, and he will become what she became once for him “a saving” ❤

I just saw them tonight in Greenville, SC and they were fantastic. This will always be my favorite Goo Goo Dolls song…so much so, my first email address was based off of it. 👍

This song will always make me think of how my "black balloon" made me lose the love of my life. I Mena no one knows how things would have went. But I believe it did... I tried "crank" at the hands of my sister that wanted me to try it..long story. She was going got be sent away.... Should have said no...never even heard of it before. Was addicted instantly. Soon, I lost my boyfriend, Ed, who did not do drugs. 35 plus years later I can say, he was truly the love of my life. It is knitted in the soul. After trying the crank, a year later I quit, like magic and walked away from the drug, after losing everything and ending up homeless.. Was 18 the day I tried it. Life moved on.... Got married then divorced almost 11 years later.. Went on the rebound and loved the party life... Had and lost a second chance with Ed. But I was more interested in partying then and became a alcoholic. Only to quit two years a real SHAME.

This song makes me wish to hell and back that I would have not of done those things. What a WASTE. People, anyone, addicted to drugs or alcohol.. If I can walk away the way I DID, anyone can.. Ask me how I quit the alcohol. If you wish. The crank..JUST WALK AWAY. Was just a miracle it seems. But if I can, anyone can. I was raised by a straight laced mom and I believe that helped..but she was neglectful etc. The story goes...

Being so heavily in pain from life being so harsh to someone who was probably a kind, sensitive person. A lover. Not a fighter. How many of us can relate to that? Why the universe just thrashes so many of us around while others have all they need and want and never get blamed or have to suffer the same even close? Yet at the same time, that struggling person was probably someone’s prayer in their family line. We were BROUGHT here by someone who wanted to love us. That’s what swallowing the light from the sun must feel like. Some of us here are plenty capable of life would just knock its crap off and treat its most worthy the best. Love is enough. Never lose hope to carry through no matter what. Even if you fall or lose faith or get angry. You mean more standing solo than you realize in your army of one. And your home isn’t too far away. Every reality exists. Everything can be healed in time. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Someone out there understands you.
