The Circular Design Lab is a Bangkok based initiative that runs as a self-organized open innovation platform to tackle complex systemic challenges, especially with a climate justice lens. Run by 100% volunteers, the ‘lab’ started with the question: how might everyday citizens respond collectively to issues that typically seem intractable and entrenched? Since 2019 they have convened to confront issues connected to waste management, the plastics pandemic, air pollution and unsustainable fast fashion.

In this session, Courtney Savie Lawrence, cofounder of the Circular Design Lab, will share with us the journey this collective has taken to date, as well as highlighting how they have taken concepts from systems theory and put them into practice- in this session in particular she will share the backstory of how the lab has evolved and walk through the deep dive of their current systems shift prototype focused on air pollution - one that is crafted around the leverage points (policy change and awareness) identified in their systemic design workshops.

About the speaker:
Courtney has lived, worked and travelled across more than 70 countries in pursuit of positive social change. She thrives on working with others to bring system changing and meaningful projects to life, and currently works with the UNDP Regional Innovation Team as Head of Exploration for the Asia Pacific. She is a current RSA Fellow and THNK School of Creative Leadership Alum. In the past 10 years she has launched  multiple organizations and has worked among larger scale entities such as Ashoka and collaborated with global academic centers such as MIT's D-lab and Stanford's Hasso Plattner Institute of Design.
