In this video I share with you the thoughts I have formed over a few days about the new Line 6 HX Stomp XL. I discuss some questions I'm still having like "who is this for?" and "do more switches mean you don't actually need a midi controller anymore?"

An hx stomp xl would be perfect in my rig since I don’t stick to a single tone. I like the flexibility the xl has

I guess there are different types of users... I definitely agree that I would like more stereo loops, a bit more DSP.... DEFIANTLY NOT MORE SWITCHES.... I make small modular battery powered boards... for me I would like the hx to move closer to a simple switcher. While retaining all of the helix effects
I think they solved the problem of switches with snapshots... surly the original point of snapshots and why the hx was designed was so that we could all stop tap dancing.... and then line 6 builds a new river dance. MIDI msg’s need more agree, I am looking forward to the hx 2 maybe one day.great for the content. Thank you

Hi there, I have the HX stomp on a pedaltrain Nano, it can't get smaller than that, I control it with a Mosky Dual Switch and the disaster area dmc micro, I can get a ton of sounds out of a single preset, I have no DSP shortage, I play worship, jazz, rock, just anything with this setup. I believe the XL will be good for new users who want something small to use as a standalone rig without having to make a board, but many of us are already set up and ready to go. Also messing with cables and pedals is a guilty pleasure of mine.😅 Anyways, awesome video.🔥🔥🔥

This product is for me. I have the helix floor and want something smaller that doesn't need me to buy a midi controller to have control over my patches.

By just looking at it, obviously Line 6 should make a separate "XL module" that the HX Stomp can easily slide/snap into. All it needs to do is connect to the MIDI ports, and the Headphones output. This would make the Stomp ever more versatile - Stomp and HX Edit for desktop use, "XL Module" for floor use.

Use your old stomp ambient FX in the loop of the XL. Instant expansion.

I've been holding off on the HX Stomp, because like you said, "Don't go into debt to get gear." But when this comes out, that'll mean people are going to start selling their Stomps and prices will drop from the inflation lol

commander is what will truly make this thing a powerful tool to utilize HOWEVER with only 6 messages possible I think pairing this with MIDI still wins in terms of unlocking user potential. I plan to get some MIDI pedals to join up with my MC3 soon, been eyeing that broken arrow and a source audio collider for my next pedalboard upgrades to compliment my stomp!

So I gig a lot and in different groups (covers bands, originals, worship) and this would be perfect for me. To be able to throw my whole rig in my gig bag and plug in at a moments notice and cover pretty much any genre easily is heaven sent! Plus right now I'm using a digitech rp1000 with a couple drive pedals, so this would be a much needed upgrade. I've seen the Boss GX1000 and the Pod Go, as well as the Fender tone master, but this unit just seems way more compact and higher quality. A friend of mine uses just the HX stomp as a session player/hired gun and his tone us some of the best ove heard, and he is always set up way before me haha

This is for me. Love my Stomp, but don't love programming and wiring the external MIDI controller. This will let me get more out of the Stomp with less fuss. It's a win.

So I’m mainly interested in getting the HX stomp xl to primarily be my all in one for guitar & bass(with some exceptions) & connect via midi. I also have a looptimus midi pedal that I haven’t utilized yet but I’m guessing I’d have pretty much all the midi connection switches I need. Sounds like I’m more convinced that’s the route I wanna go👍🏼

As a brand new helix lt user, I haven’t yet had to use the edit button. However, I do like appeal that if I need to edit a parameter quickly (such as trails) is a great benefit that I am not complaining about.

I'd prefer it if they managed to compress the effects to use less DSP than add more as it would quickly bring an end to the 'more DSP = better' and would mean we could focus on the actual sound.
Also, I think they could have made the XL redundant if they updated the firmware to allow to long holds like the disaster area midi allows and I'm sure other companies too.

I just described to your channel after watching about 10 of your videos. These are great! Got an advice question for you though. I am a worship leader leading primarily from the acoustic guitar but wanting to use my electric on the songs that call for it. Every church I am leading at seems to be moving to IEMs and no guitar amps to reduce stage volume. So I'm trying to figure out a small but powerful rig that is versatile enough to run my acoustic with a bit of verb and ambiance and then use the same rig to play electric rhythm. I am very intrigued by your custom board and all of this stereo and midi business, but I am a bit of a "set it and forget it" old school guy, so I'm wondering how complicated it would be to set up and run your rig in multiple church settings? Or what kind of setup you might recommend? Happy to talk off line too if you have time.

Hello from Colorado!!!! I am a worship leader who also plays lead guitar for our teams 2 weeks out of the month. I play lead for other churches and also play in an Americana band. I play through a hand wired BadCat Cub and a Blackface Deluxe. Backstage. Standard pedalboard although I am thinking of incorporating a switcher...but there is James Duke and he gets by just find anyway, I digress. Loud. It is great. I HAD no interest in amp modelers, Kempers, Axe Fx etc. That said... Carrying my amps everywhere, and being told to turn down at other churches is not fun. This is for me. Maybe. I feel like I would be cheating with my self and my amps lol! Please help me decide.

personally half of the fun with HX stomp is making the small form factor work. I use mine for worship at my church on a board with no extra power needed. Mission footswitch and bluetooth midi on my iphone for quick bank switching and tuner controls. This is perfect for worship. our sets aren't more than 4 songs anyways. This could be a rabbit hole of over control for me :)
