You’re correct, this is stated in the DMC1 novel.
the dashes Dante and Vergil perform are simply really fast movements that the normal eye can’t trace.

If you really pay attention to the scene time slows down which means he was running fast its just that V was in a too advantageous position.

Maybe cuz after V fuses into Vergil he said that heal your wounds get strong so Dante is probably a bit banged up after urizen since Dante is slightly stronger but took a bit of effort

I chalked it up to part of him wanting Vergil back, so he decided to just run instead of teleporting - but, then again, V's movements are also slowed, so he could be using Trickster, or just a weaker form of it.

Is just for a plot. Forget teleport, Dante can just shoot V from the distance but nope he has to run for dramatic purpose.

Most likely reason dante is tired and weakened when he fought Vergil before V fuse with Vergil. even Vergil said it himself that dante needs to heal his wounds cuz he knows defeating a weakened dante won't satisfy his motivation.

I think that's just happening so fast this scene is even in slowmotion, so take it like Dante is running at the speed of the trickster dash and it's too late because V reunited with urizen to became Vergil the Alpha and Omega

My theory is that they need to exert demonic energy to move at higher speeds, explaining why they run at a reasonable pace through levels.

Dante after this fight was probably missing a lot of that demonic energy.

This theory is supported by the flashy VFX whenever they do move crazy fast.

Maybe it's like an adrenaline hit where you forget the most optimal solution and just do the first thing that comes to your mind and run with it
