Visited Shanghai once on a work trip, and walked Nanjing Road out to the Bund, same as you two. It definitely makes you feel like you are in a foreign land. The subway was quite an experience, and as a tall American, I definitely caught a lot of side-eye.

This looks very clean and modern. I will never go to many of these countries, but I enjoy catching them at home.

Chinese traffic is as quiet as it is partially because non electric scooters were banned from being sold in the country (at least the cities) many years ago, so unless you see a proper motorcycle, you're unlikely to see any two wheeled vehicle that isn't electric or manually pedalled. It was like this already at the time when I went to China a few times between late 2006 and summer of 2010, and going by this video, the traffic is even more silent now than when I went. More electric vehicles in general now compared to 14+ years ago.

I always loved my time in China

Hi Deana and Phil. I was born in China East of Shanghai called Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province. Lived in America since 3 years old by my adopted parents . I am glad able to visit my birth country. Hear Mandarin too. I know quite a bit of Mandarin by studying it last year and still continue. I am glad Deana knew some basic Mandarin.

Seems like only yesterday China opened back up to tourists, it’s amazing what can be accomplished in only a few short decades. Have to say I wonder how many pedestrians get knocked around by the scooters and motorcycles, looks like there is hardly any deviation between the two. Food looked tasty, definitely made me hungry, lol. Deana and Phil, Thanks for taking us along, quite an experience.

That was a good video of your incredible trip. The quietness of the roads are surprising but makes sense when you explained about the electric scooters and cars. That was smart of Phil to trade in his small bowl to the actual serving bowl at that restaurant - haha. Thank you for taking us with you on your trip.

I am from Wuxi, a small city next to Shanghai. I often go to Shanghai. Relatively speaking, many places in Shanghai are already very worn, because the earliest development of Shanghai and the early construction of the city. If you like to see the skyscraper, please visit Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Nanjing and other cities such as cities and other cities such as cities and other cities such as cities and other cities. The construction of these cities is relatively late, so urban buildings are more new

Memories! I studied in Shanghai at Fudan in 1987/88 (!) at the age of 21. At that time, pudong, the other side of the river, was all but completely empty. Not a single high-rise, just a few shacks on the riverbank.
My last time in Shanghai was a business trip in spring 2007.
What strikes me in this video is how few people are in the streets! I swear, there were about a hundred times more, then! At all times 9f the day, and even late at night. Strange. Where have they all gone?

Oh wow, Deane and I were in Schanghai simultaneously. We lived there 2014-2017, in Songjiang and Minhang district. Epic times to live in China.

Another interesting video !! I also went though a weird transit experience at PVG.. I was only there for a transit to Japan from Germany but they asked me to enter China and exist China instead of staying in the transit area. I think the biggest problem on immigration in China is that what a staff at aipport says is different from what other staffs say that makes tourists so frustrated and we just end up having to follow what they say without reasonable explanation.. But, I truly love the people and foods in China so addressing this issue can make China more attractive for tourists :)
