I used to live in Alaska. Most challenging, yet most exhilarating, place I've ever lived.

My mentor was one of the first school teachers at Eklutna, he helped write the paperwork for statehood and schooled 3 AK governors as 6th grade students . Helped many native kids get their commercial fishing liscences .

ALASKA IS EXPENSIVE AND HARD ON YOU FOR COLD WEATHER. BUT IF YOU ARE BUSY YOU LOVE IT. NOT FOR OLDER PEOPLE TO RETIRE IT'S TOO COLD.

I'm from Vermont originally so you could say I'm used to winter and even prefer it to summer. Alaska suits me just fine 😅

I live in Fairbanks... Love it here. Every time I get caught in a traffic jam for hours in California, I can't wait to get back home. I'll take the cold over the crowds. You just put on a warm coat... No big deal. And California with its taxes on income, sales taxes, high gasoline taxes, high auto registration fees and high energy prices is more expensive than Fairbanks by a long shot. Plus you can buy a nice house in Fairbanks for $400, 000...try that in many cities in California... It won't even buy you a tear down.

Alaska may not have many roads, but in other states if you don't a car, there might not be public transportation, you cannot get around. So, the roads don't help. Every place has its ups and downs.

When I win the lottery, I'm leaving LA and buying an off-grid remote home on an isolated remote lake somewhere, completely kitted out and outfitted for remote living.
I'll also need a flawlessly gorgeous, female Alaskan bush pilot who will cater to my every whim.

Visit? Definitely in the summer. Live? My wife and myself aren’t up to the long winters anymore. Cold weather bothers my back since an accident I had. Told me son you can make a ton of money working there in certain areas.

Don’t move here, bears may get you in the parking lot at Walmart.

Funniest thing I've ever heard about Alaska was a woman on a tv documentary about the State and she was talking about the favorable ratio of men to women. She said, with a perfectly straight face Sure, the odds are good - but the goods are odd!
