The 2025 Corvette ZR1 will be making an incredible 1,064 horsepower from a twin turbo 5.5L flat-plane crank V8. This is some serious power and performance. So can we consider it a hypercar? It will match up in many ways to cars that are 3-4 times the price, demolishing pretty much everything else in the supercar segment. Join me for a fun debate and comment below, what do you think?

I don’t even care what the label is. Just like every other area of interest, it’s subjective. I have a C8 Z06 now and I truly enjoy it. If my dealer gets an allocation in a timely fashion and I can also get the C8 ZR1 at MSRP; I will likely do so. Going through life concerned of what other people label my car is of no interest to me. I enjoy many of them for different reasons.

At this point you’re just making excuses because it is an American car. American cars are raising the bar pretty high. Cadillac and Corvette are up there with the best💪

Vegeta said it best "Trespass into the domain of the gods!" a supercar that can role with the hypercars. I look at hypercars as stylish F1 cars with a v10, v12, v16.

Hyper cars aren't new;
Bugatti is a hyper car.

Lamborghini is a super car

Hyper by definition mean above and beyond. Just because a mfg price there cars over a million $ does not make it hyper. This ZR1 to run 9 sec 1/4 miles and over 215 mph does make it a hyper car. It is Above and beyond all other 93 octane gasoline cars. Yes, like everything else you will always have the old snobs that will fight and argue with you. Let them

I would say that it has the performance of some older hyper cars, it’s on par with the sf90 and revuelto, which I consider supercars, I think hyper cars are a million plus, imo

Too many people hate on American cars, and will say that it needs to be from Europe and cost over a million to be a Hypercar . When Evo did their car of the year a few years ago they didn't even look at the C8 Corvette, and the only American car Jeremy Clarkson ever said anything nice about was the GMC Syclone .

Performance and features should be the only thing to determine if a car is a hypercar

Interesting. It will definitely have the performance!

Yes its a hupercar. The Performance makes it so. And its going to be quite expensive. Its not just the horsepower. Its the fact its also a major track monster.

Its pretty simple; the C8 Eray absolutely destroys the Ferrari 296 including in tech; the Z06 destroys the Pista/Italia (sticky buttons) and the ZR1 absolutely savages the Ferrari SF90.

Yes, there are a lot of different things to consider when considering a car as a Hypercar, but... PRICE? Limited? I think it is a consequence of some main points as... Technology is the first one; a car built using the latest technology to improve performance is definitively a Hypercar. Performance is important but can not be the key, as some Hypercars are built nowadays to be connected with the owner, like the T50 with the manual gearbox, no way to compete with a DCT transmission car, but extremely light, that car's aerodynamics is so advanced that has Pituital valves around the body for the electronic brain detect how dense is the air in each corner of the car to control the flaps.... And for sure, they do have their own structure, engine, and body. FORGET PRICE AND LIMITED PRODUCTION

Don't really care what they call it, it's all subjective. The ZR1 IS the American Muscle Supercar.

If having close to 1k hp means “hyper car, ” then the Tesla Plaid is a hyper.

That’s why there’s more to it than just hp. Weight (carbon fiber tub - which the ZR1 lacks), suspension & aero (there are cars with better aero and downforce tech than the ZR1) all plays a role. Plus material quality and unique design. Combine all that, then we can talk hyper.

I really don't care what it's labeled as it's more about how it's going to be used and the kind of enjoyment you get out of it. As for the ZR1 Zora hybrid, I believe it's coming because the ZR1 is not going to get sold outside US and some gulf states without hybridization.

The people say it’s not are usually the people who can’t afford the ZR1. Hyper car have to have 3 factor: performance, technology and design, depending on who’s asked, it is a hyper car by very definition!!!

Rarity, tech advancements, exotic materials, and exclusivity would be my go to on what separates a hypercar from the rest of the pack. For example 911s can end up in the supercar category once they get to a certain point but never hypercar, as you said prestige carries a lot of weight in what makes the hyper cut, and that's where the 918 comes in a hypercar has to be it's own thing it's own model and that's why I believe that no Corvette can be a hypercar.

Think of cars like athletes you have the average joe(regular car) who doesn't compete but does some sports for fun, then you have semi-pro(sports car), then you have pros(supercars), an average joe could in theory make it to the pro level if they have the right tools and training but they can never become a Maybe GM could make the Zora a standalone model and not call it a Corvette, make it rare, throw literally any every advancement they possibly can at, make the paint, interior absolutely top tier then that could be called a hypercar. That's my opinion anyway.

The context argument is correct. If the C8 Stingray came out in 1967 it would’ve been considered a hyper super ultra car. But today it’s considered a sports car (borderline super car but still).

Also I do believe the ZR1 will start closer to $150K. The C7 ZR1 was like $130K I believe and they were somewhat limited production. The point of this car is scalability. They were proud of the stingray starting as cheap as possible, the Z06 and Eray are also good value. Chevrolet has already mentioned they’re making enough ZR1s for everyone. This WILL drive manufacturing costs down.
