I bought both the OpenRun Pro 2 and the OpenFit 2 and tested both back to back for a while. Sound quality wise, the Openfit 2 wins by a large margin and has much more volume. Comfort for me is a wash since both have positives and negatives. The OpenRun Pro 2 is much easier to get on and off quickly and is truly open. These, while open, do actually block a bit of sound out since they do cover your ear slightly. My use case is primarily work from home and decided the higher sound quality is beneficial as I can actually listen to music on these and it sounds good enough to really enjoy it, the OpenRun Pro 2 don't get very loud and sound quality is not really good enough to enjoy music while I work. Both are great but decided the openfit 2 was better for me.

The Mic's for video calls and phone calls are excellent on both.

Great review, thanks.
I just tested a pair of Openfit 2, and must say, the comfort certainly depends on the ear shape. In my case, they felt horribly wobbly, banging against my ear on even small head moves. Definitely did not sit securely in/over the ear, and I would never be able to do any substantial exercise wearing them.
While the sound quality might be good, the lack of fit is a big thank you, but no.
I would suggest anyone considering these to try them out in a shop before purchasing.

I've been waiting for your honest, non-sponsored review as I was trying to decide whether to upgrade from the original OpenFit. I liked the originals, but I always felt the SQ was lacking especially when compared to my AirPods Pro 2. So, better SQ is my main reason to upgrade, and the physical buttons are a nice bonus. Thanks for helping me make my decision!

That bump from 7 to 11 hour battery life is game-changing for me for wearing while I work. IP55 is a nice boost too. I’ll grab these as soon as they launch in the UK. Thanks Des!

I ❤️ my open fit 2. After 8-10hrs of wearing I will say my ear is a little sore. I like being able to hear my surroundings esp when on a walk. The sound is crisp & I enjoy having an app to customize sound etc vs using a generic app that isn't made for the buds specifically. After appx 10hrs of use I still had 20% battery life so that is an addtnl. perk. I have used on a phone call and very pleased with sound as well. One of my fav parts is there is no need to go to the device bluetooth to connect or shut off as I have experienced with diff brands in the past. Once you remove the ear bud or both it auto connects and dis connects upon placing back in the charger case. Highly recmnd. this product

I'm trying to decide between these and the Soundcore AeroFit 2. Which do you prefer?

Great review as always, Des. Is there still no way to turn them off without returning them to the case?

Thanks for this review, Des! I've been marathon training with the original OpenFits and ran a marathon with them as well. They died on me after about 3h50min in the race, so I'm glad to hear about the battery life bump. My two biggest problems with the originals, though, are: 1) the IP54 rating was not quite enough to stand up to a few runs in the rain. I live in LA, but as soon as I tried them up in SF in the rain a couple times, the right one got muffled sounding, I think from water getting in the top-side speaker. Not shocking, considering the rating, but happy to hear these got a bump up in that respect. 2) Lack of control customizability. I prefer next/previous track and volume controls while running but the originals force you to choose between those. You can't have both, and it's really effing annoying. I have to adjust volume on my Garmin which is fiddly. Looks like these, via the button, offer the ability to have volume and next/previous track controls at the same time. Is that correct?

I went to Best Buy to purchase the Open Fit 2 - I returned the Sony MX5 because they do not work with my new Viture Pro XR glasses (the over ear portion presses down on the frame of the glasses so there is pain behind my ear). While I was there I found out about the Comm 2 version - and I am thinking of getting these for my WFH job! How does the Comm 2 compare with the OpenFit2?

Hi. I know you wear two watches, but I'm just asking out of curiosity. If you had to choose one, which one would it be? I've been with Garmin since the Fenix 6, then the 7, and I currently have the 8 since its premiere, but I'm seriously considering the Ultra 2. I love the buttons in Garmin, and the flashlight is literally phenomenal to me, but I'm drawn to the Ultra 2. That's why I'm asking. You can only choose one 😉

Thanks Des, helpful as always. Love to bike with my open run pro2s. Bought the open fit airs for the better sound, but I find if I get sweaty working out, the buttons get stuck a lot (turning down the volume, etc.) Ordered the Open Fit2s, hopefully they are better with the physical buttons like the open runs!
